It really gets old
I feel your pain. I was born and raised in Maine. When I was a kid (and even today) the Boston Red Sox were my first love but when fall would come, and I gravitated to dad's Redskins. He was born and raised in Maine too, but Larry Brown was the coolest guy in the NFL when he was a kid, and he chose the Skins over the local Patriots (who never had a real rabid fan base.)
At least he got to be a Skins fan during the glory days of George Allen and Joe Gibbs. At least he got to see 5 Super Bowl appearances... I really became a fan of football when Heath Shuler came into the league. My Redskins experiences are with Westbrook, Shuler, Spurrier, Snyder, Cerrato, George, Candidate, Gardner, Gibbs II (probably the worst coach in recent years because he killed the future for two early playoff exits) and others.
I could have been born a Patriots fan and seen a franchise QB in a world class organization, I moved to PA when I was a kid, I could have been a Steelers fan and watched them win two Super Bowls with a star QB (of questionable moral character of course) and then I moved to Colorado in 2001... I could have jumped ship to the Broncos who pretty quickly went to the playoffs three straight times...
But no.
I literally feel nothing for any other team. When the Broncos/Patriots win or lose, I couldn't care less. I am forever bound to the Redskins. I just don't have an attachment to any other team. I'm doomed to follow this terrible team forever.
