By punishing Haynesworth, you ARE serving the need of the team. Showing that you are in charge. You think in the Army, guys are being pardoned for being disobedient? No way.
Imagine what the other players would think if Hayneworth showed up after missing the enitre offseason and requesting a trade (blah blah blah), and he comes to practice and Shanny puts him on the starting unit, no questions asked. You think THAT woulkd be a good situation? It would be 2009 all over again.
He wasnt going to put him back into the starting lineup. He was GOING TO MAKE HIM GO THROUGH A CONDITIONING TEST at 7:30am (an hour and hald before everyone else showed up) AND HE WAS GOING TO BE ON THE 2ND TEAM DEFENSE! Thats enough, oh yeah, HE PASSED THE INITIAL TEST! Shanahan wasnt satisfied because he got too much time taking a leak in between sprints. Give me a break, this wasnt for the greater good of the team. Also, why does he have to wait a WHOLE DAY to try again?? He couldnt try 30 minutes later with the S&C Coach....No because Shanahan wanted to make sure he was embarrassed today.
Also, this isnt the Army, this isnt some pee-wee league sport. Its the NFL, these are grown men, and its a BUSINESS. It wasnt for the greater good to make Haynesworth a whipping boy today. I definitely think the first day of camp of the new regime was NOT enhanced by Shanahan making sure he got his shot in on Haynesworth. If he wants to flex his muscles; let him have a fair chance to go through the conditioning test, keep him on 2nd team and and have Haslett stay on him.
The team already has respect for him, they know hes a take-no-crap guy. I dont think this is going to hurt or help us unless it continues to get dragged out because Shanahan refuses to stop flexing his muscles. All I am saying is that this is was a unnecessary blemish on the opening, of an otherwise new exciting regime and a new feeling of rejuvenation.
If Shanahan had just ignored the lengthy bathroom break and passed him (and this continues), it takes less time for him to get in, get acclimated, and get back to being a part of this team. I dont care about AH. I care about this team and if hes going to be on it, I want him in immediately and learning the 3-4, if they dont want him cut him or trade him but stop trying to act like dragging this story out helps locker room moral. I want to wake up tomorrow hearing that he passed the damn test and hes practicing or we cut/trade him its effing pointless to carry this BS on....(sigh)

!!!
P.S. I cant stand when anyone compares the NFL to a normal occupancy, the armed forces, or a lower level of competition.
1.) People with normal jobs dont get any near the amount of attention or money, its foolish to compare being in the NFL to your financing job.(Not saying you did just something I hear on the radio all the time)
2.) The Armed forces are not a sport. If you dont cooperate it could mean your life or the life of a fellow soldier not a missed blocking assignment or long run play.
3.) There's a reason its called PROFESSIONAL Sports because its a whole new set of rules and regulations then coaching a high school football team.
...One more thought if Peyton Manning is "caught in the stacks with the coaches daughter" who do you think gets let go first??....Not a sermon, just a thought
