I actually disagree with this. Yes, the defense should have done better late against the Eagles and Saints. However, time and time again we have seen the defense bail out our pathetic offense over the last few seasons. How many times has the offense done the same for the defense?? This is a TEAM game and it's time that the offense, late in the game, step up and actually deliver a win for this team. I mean even the lowly Raiders, against a good Pittsburgh D, with Bruce Don'tKnowHowToSpellHisLastName playing qb, marched down the field late and scored a game winning td. It's absurd to expect the D to constantly come up with stops while at the same time giving the O a pass for CONSTANTLY FAILING to deliver late in game. Campbell isn't clutch, guys like Sellers are unreliable, and in general, nobody on the offense seems willing or able to step up and make a game changing play late.
I agree with you that the offense never bails out the defense; however, using the Oakland example isn't really good. Pittsburgh has an
awful 4th quarter defense; they've let people score at will on them:
But speaking of things these guys would like to have back, we're making a list, checking it thrice.
They'd like to have back that fourth quarter in Chicago, when they led 14-7 but lost to Jay Cutler, 17-14.
They'd like to have back that fourth quarter in Cincinnati, when they led 20-9 but lost to Carson Palmer.
They'd like to have back that fourth quarter in Kansas City, when they led 24-17 but lost to Matt Cassel.
They'd like to have back that fourth quarter in Baltimore, when they led 17-14 behind a third-string quarterback but lost to Joe Flacco.
And they might like to have this back -- this sourest entry yet on the wish list, a fourth quarter in which they blew three leads -- 10-6, 17-13, and 24-20 -- the last evaporating on a 10-play 88-yard drive in 1:47 by The Great Gradkowski.
The Steelers have thus been outscored 105-78 after the third quarter, including 6-3 in overtime

While we have the most expensive RB in the league (Portis), and a mess of an offensive line, we can't afford luxury picks like high 1st rounders on RBs.
And for those who want to spend a top 5 pick on OL, what lineman are you going to replace next year Samuels Dockery Rabach Williams/Rinehart or Heyer?
Samuels may never play again, so yes, he's a candidate. And the only franchise LT in next year's draft will be a top 5 pick.
In any case, if you're still stuck on Spiller, he doesn't look like a top 5 pick. It'd be a huge reach to go for him with our high 1st rounder. That just isn't smart. I'd almost prefer picking Berry over Spiller at that point, if the FO is going to go full-retard in the draft. At least Berry is rated that high, and we have a demonstrable need at FS (though if we draft another safety instead of QB or OL...good lord. It's the Lions and their WRs all over again).
