Smootie played great today! I don't know if that was an blanket statement, but he and Reed Doughty were the only players on D to show up.

The biggest stat that jumps out at me is ZERO rushing yards in the first half. I suppose for everyone down on JC they will blame him for that too.

I wouldn't mind seeing JC call more of his own plays. At least he was able to score in the red zone today although it was a little too late.

Yes indeed. I knew the defense would be blamed for this debacle. Forget the continued failure to score in the red zone ... or getting stuffed on the goal line.

Everyone knows you need to score to win.

What today proved was that Stafford is a much better QB after three games than Campbell after 4 years. That's all today proved.

Check the stats, Ray. Campbell 97.6, 340 yards passing, two tds. He also gained a third of Deadskins rushing yards. He whipped Stafford in every category but interceptions (1). What was proved today is that Campbell is the whole offense because the OL is the worse Redskin OL in modern history. Your opinions are as hopeless as Zorn's play calling.

Stats ... Stats ... Stats ...

I did check them. And the stats are (drum roll) 19 -14.

Tons of yards ... very few points ... another disastrous loss.

Hurray Campbell.

Ray,
How about tihs one:
17-22. JC's record as a starter! And he has NEVER been above 500.

If we replace Campbell next season it will probably have to be via the draft , so to get a good QB we will need to suck this season (have made a good start on this already) or trade up to get one. But even with a good QB will the OL which will be another year older, be able to cope?

Another opinion without anything to back it. JC personally acounted for 361
yards today, against 42 for the OL in rushing mode. We need to spend all of our draft picks on OL next year. It's that desperate.

You're personally out of your mind. Do you even watch the games or just check the box score?

Campbell doesn't personally account for anything other than a losing record. My dead grandmother could have thrown that ball to Moss ... and in the end, a bunch of yards padding his personal stats that rarely result in actual points on the scoreboard.

In between, the Redskins were 2 out of 10 on third downs. That's PATHETIC, and it also shows how many failed possessions JC personally engineered. Two fumbles that Campbell retrieved himself, and a couple of int's that were dropped. Totally shut out in the first half, and the Moss score was a busted coverage ... nobody within shouting distance of him. Certainly not what I would call a spectacular day by the QB .... but I'll grant you, any pass Campbell throws that winds up in the end zone is spectacularly rare and noteworthy. And he had 2 today which is 2 more than last week.

No, the defense didn't shut them out. And knowing that the offense is only capable of scoring 10 to 14 points, the defense didn't do enough to win this one.

And ... since you are so enamored with stats ... that running game of the Lions that our sucky defense couldn't stop averaged 4.3 yards. The crappy running game of the Redskins averaged 4.6. They just failed to run more than 14 plays ... preferring to let Jason throw his 5 yard passes all day that don't amount to anything but statistics the apologists can cling to.

Has anyone yet mentioned how pathetic the Redskins are? They should all just pack their bags and forfeit the season! I should have been a Steelers fan; year in and year out they are always contenders.

How about Detroit being 9-for-12 on third downs in the first half -- and the last of those was a clock-stopping spike, which really made them 9-for-the 11 times they tried to convert.

And they were 10-for-18 for the game -- after being only 6-for-25 in the two games before.

No swagger.... No discipline.... No direction.... Lack of coaching.....

How is it that Harbaugh, Ryan, Smith and other 2nd year HC's can get their teams to turn around but yet we fall on our face even with the HOF Coach Gibbs?

Blow up the front office and coaching staff and get people in here that can pick the talent, coach the talent and not take the talent they have and try to make them into something that they are not, like making Orakpo a LB. The better teams and even teams like the Lions, Rams, Bucs would have drafted this kid and put him on his knuckles. Leave it up to GW and his disciple Blache to take guys that are passer rushers, Arrington and now Orakpo, and ruin them. Orakpo played four years on his knuckles and bring him in and try to make him a LB. Dumb, dumb, dumb.....

As Colin Cowherd has said; there are 4 components which makes for a successful franchise, and he is correct.

1. A good owner

2. A smart GM

3. A great coach

4. A good quarterback

We have none of that, hence the Redskins suck!

At least QB's can change, coaches can change, and GM's (well we don't have a GM), but owners are unchangeable.

Unfortunately, Synder will be the owner for quite a while, stymieing the Skins chances of ever being once again dominant or at least successful for a period of time in the NFL. The Skins are officially a third tier team. The bottom line is, might as well find a new team to start cheering for.

Maybe Synder will choke to death on his own ego.

Did it make anyone else sick how much credit Blache gave the Lions? That's why we lost, we had a losers mentality. I agree that the Lions are a better team than they are last year, but he gave them too much respect. Who cares if our secondary can't cover. You blitz, and blitz well so that they don't have to cover as long.

Saying that losing to a a team that's lost 19 straight shouldn't have been a surprise shows you how much of a loser Blache is in terms of mentality. I'd refuse to play for a guy that said that. Players need to believe that your system works. What confidence as a coach does that say when you public state that the Lions offense was possibly just better than you?

and of the four mentioned...The last one(GOOD QB)...is the most imperative. A good QB masks alot teams defiencies and covers up alot weaknesses...IE Pitt had an horrific Pass blocking OLINE and look were they ended up'
If you have playamking QB that has the consistent ability TO SCORE POINTS it will overcome alot weaknesses a franchise may have

A good coach with a terrible qb...IS AN UNEMPLOYED COACH

There's no moral ground to stand on here ... for a team that has no morals.

There's a statute of limitations on unconditional faith, hope and belief. And it ran out oh .... about two years ago.

Now, it's on a conditional "show me" basis. When I see a reason to believe, I will.

I've said this on other posts earlier today. Blache is a GW disciple and he is trying to run this "rigid" defense with guys that should be making plays. Then he does exactly what GW did and try to make a pass rusher into a LB. Drafting Brian Orakpo was one of the best moves this team has made in a while but that is where it stops. You take a kid who's knuckles have been in the dirt for four years and now he's got to try to cover, let's see: Witten & Bennett, Celek, Winslow, Boss, Shockey, Gonzalez, etc. after playing four years as a DE. Come on...

Blache changed nothing from what GW was running and GW built his schemes around Sean Taylor because Sean was the "bail out" over the top with his sick hitting and his speed to cover. That allowed GW to put together an "electric football" type defense where players played spots instead of playing with their talent. Somebody told him that he has arrived as Coordinator and that is wrong. This defense is a top 10 defense because of the stat sheet and not play making.

This team needs to change coaches on both sides of the ball.

It's just that it's grated at my heart for so long that I've used my head to lock my heart behind an imprenetrable wall so that I no longer allow it to come out in these discussions.

It hurts too darn much.

We are not a good team and today it showed. Maybe we have some good players here and there, but a good team we are not.

You need someone with ultrahuman strength, like Gibbs had, to lift a group like this from mediocre to acceptable. Zorn has not been able to do it.

Season is over.

Campbell had great stats today. 361 yds, passing and running. The rushing game without him gained 42. Please justify your comment.

Dude, you should know by now that stats mean little to nothing when gauging this team. Same can be said about his stats during the Giants game.

Campbell had most of those yards against a prevent defense. He threw absurd 5 and 6 yard passes when it was third and 12, 20, etc. I shouted various times at my screen when I saw him do this.

Why can't some of you guys just accept the fact that this team needs a major rehaul? We simply don't have a good team. Losing to the Lions should demonstrate that.

Is reality not clear enough? I'll say that again: our team just lost to the Lions.

Depression tends to make things worse. I refuse to give the season away. I stand on my prediction of 8 - 8 plus minus one game.

You are right that things may unravel. This week will see UNBEARABLE pressure from the media and fans on the organization. It is Washington DC for God's sake!

But I am still confident that what's good in this team may prevail to make it competitive for the remainder of the season. Exaggeration is the worst enemy of an otherwise objective assessment. The Team is not TERRIBLE. The Team was predicted by most posters to have a mediocre record and they are still fulfilling that prediction with some difficulties but they will recover.

Why?

Because I'm not afraid to point out that our team sucks?

If you want change, you must first admit that things are not going well. Llosing to the Lions "richly" illustrates my point.

I mostly agrre with you, RiC.

But I believe the stench of this loss to the Lions will follow the team for the whole season.

I have seen little during the past 12 games to believe the team will suddenly start making big plays, smothering opposing QBs, playing with fire in their hearts or even making sound playcalling.

My pessimism comes directly from those objective observations.

Three large group of posters in this thread:

1. The ones who hoped for the best and have had their hopes dashed

2. The ones who expected things going mediocre and are in pain for seeing the problem well in advance

3. Those who wish to take it on one another and/or players and coaches for the frustration.

People. Good Fans stand with their Team for good and bad, in good times and bad times. Good Fans stand together regardless of their views. I have no doubt about the love you all have for the team. You would not be here in a day like today otherwise.

Stand by your team regardless of the record.

Stand by your fellow fan regardless of the views that you may agree or disagree with. Do not question each others' fanhood please.

Tough times. No question about it.

Hail brothers and sisters !

What's funniest about the bashers is this exact bizarre belief they they see things the Skins fans don't. Sure, Chris, none of us had any clue that our moves this off-season might not work out. It was your keen insight and intellectual discipline which allowed you to recognize that may not be the case. None of us had a clue our O might be an issue, that our latest big dollar free agents may not fix all our problems, that Zorn's playcalling which was in question last year may not be miraculously resolved in the off season. I mean sure, we have a plan EVERY year and haven't had an actual great year since Gibbs 1.0, but we were oblivious to the possibility that this year would not result in a Super Bowl victory and our staking the pro-bowl.

You want crow, fine. Congratulations on your great I told you so victory yesterday giving you the change to crow today. What kind of fan was I for hoping for the best. You are an intellectual God. I am humbled. Wow, I never saw even the remotest possibility we would not be 3-0 at this point and looking at clinching the division. :hail:

Are you happy now?

I think you're missing the largest group. Those of us who chose to just be supportive and ignore the plethora of concerns as well as the trend that every year our FA crop is supposed to be a cure all and that they haven't been and root for the team because it's SPORTS. Winning a SB isn't going to cure world hunger or end global terrorism. We care, sure. We're disappointed, sure. Shocked? Not. Devastated? Not. The "I told you so's" never told us anything we didn't know.

They just chose to be negative, we chose to be positive. And that they are all here SAYING I told you so shows what they want most. And BTW, I give you props that while I may note a tendency to be a little negative at times, you're not being that way now.
