I haven't been on much but I'm sure this is the most uninformed and wildly useless post of 2009. I hope that you simply forgot your sarcasm tags.
Chris, there is truth to what cleg is saying about DeSean. I even posted a couple of articles about it late last summer. It was reported by the media in Philly that DeSean was caught sleeping in the classrooms during meetings and film review, was always the first to remove his helmet during drills (when instructed not to) would avoid eye contact with his position coaches, would only act interested when Reid walked by and was reported as being very arrogant and cocky with the coaching staff. So cleg is right, DeSean is no model citizen on that team.
There are many reasons not yet posted here as to why DeSean has been more involved. Some are correct here; we knew the Skins would target a receiver in this past draft but said they wanted physical receivers with size, and that ain't what DeSean offers.
The Eagles have been extremely thin at the receiver position for years. Secondly, there PR was awful, as I'm sure some may remember their problems in that area last year. A lack of production at WR and numerous fumbles at PR made drafting a WR/PR a priority for the Eagles.
In addition to being extremely thin at the WR position, unforeseen injuries this year quickly elevated DeSean to a primary target. Reggie Brown and Kevin Curtis have missed significant playing time this year due to injuries. That left them with Greg Lewis, Hank Baskett and Jason Avant to round out their WR roster. Not a very intimidating threesome.
Even though we needed WR's to groom for the near future, I just don't think Zorn had much intention of benching ARE and Thrash, one with a big salary and one considered to be a "core Redskin". I also don't think Zorn anticipated both Kelly and Thomas missing almost the entire training camp due to hamstring injuries. Maybe Zorn DID initially intend to bench ARE and Thrash and play the rookies, but felt it might not earn him respect from the players and might garner him criticism from the press for doing so. We just don't know.
Nevertheless, I honestly believe things will be much different next year and we'll be happy our rookie 2nd rounders have gotten a year under their belt and a chance to perform in the same system for consecutive seasons. But as others have done in this thread, to just chalk it up by saying our QB sucks, our coach is stupid and Danny Boy is a meddler sounds like sour grapes and a desperation grasp to have someone to blame, when in fact, there are other, far more logical explanations as to why DeSean was used more than Thomas in their rookie seasons.
