RobSkins1, you should be ashamed of yourself. Royoversean comes on here and asks a legitimate question, and all you can do is badmouth him? Show some class man.
I go on to the ESPN boards of other teams all the time and ask questions just like the one Royoversean did because they are good questions that make me a more informed football fan. There is not a better place to get information about the Redskins than theHogs.net, and Royoversean came to the right place if he wants a good answer.
Royoversean, welcome to the board. You're a big man for not stooping to the level of some people here.
To answer your question, I don't know why we aren't in salary cap trouble. It seems that no matter how many big contracts we sign, we never get in salary cap trouble. We just dump and re-work contracts until we can go sign another big free agent. Maybe it will catch up to us eventually, but it hasn't yet.

I'm bored, I'm broke, and I'm back.
Are we forgetting portis?
We have probably the best young back in the league in Clinton Portis. Who may I ask does Dallas have in the backfield. Who will be the quarterback in Dallas?. To many unanswered questions and what if's.

guys - this is an adult fan site - we are adults... attack ideas not people... and that includes calling people idiots... ok?
Now, as to the idea we are going to be in salary cap problems - we might be, but then again, some salary bonuses are two tiered.. the second half doesn't hit if we cut the people beforehand - like Brunell for example. His contract sounds huge, but really most doesn't hit until after 3 years.
Some of these guys will be cut in the long run to save a lot of salary room - what you don't see seanoverroy (yes - I did that on purpose) is that we have 80+ players on our roster and that when we cut a bunch of the camp fodder we will suddenly be several million under the cap since most of the guys to be cut will not have bonus money to hit us.
Why is it that everyone cracks on the Skins for their cap problems? We were 9 mil under before we made any moves what so ever, and the Titans were what, 15 mil over? Not to mention having to get rid of a bunch of good people and still going to be in HUGE salary cap problems next year? How about the Dolphins? The Colts? The Pats? They were all OVER the cap limit this year before they did ANYTHING.
By the way guys... this is the best way to attack - hit em with facts and don't sink to the normal (not you seanoverroy) Puke level of just going "nuh uh you scumbag"

Hello, R.O.S...
I won't argue your name. As of this writing, Roy IS over Sean. Sean has yet to play a single down of NFL football, and only time will tell if Taylor can be his better-than. The odds are very good, though.
I want to apologize for your somewhat rude welcome. We have a lot of passion here. It's an eclectic mix. Doctors, lawyers, laborers, accountants, military men, working Moms, teens and 'tweens, and a Canuck or two. It's impossible to expect to come into a Redskins site and not expect some vitriol; after all, we have had our collective tail handed to us by the-team-whose-name-must-not-be-uttered maybe once or twice the past few years. We're ushering in an "old" new era, and we're full of sunshine and gatorade these days.
Yes, many pundits have us locked into a salary-cap hell, which is projected to culminate in our complete collapse. We don't give a crap, bubba. We're deeply into the here and now, and we are anxiously awaiting the return of Gibbs to the sidelines in an actual game. If you're old enough to remember, the Redskins/C****s was an exciting matchup. Our prediction here is, it will be again.
Welcome to the Hogs.net.

I always assumed the fodder guys never really counted towards the cap since the cap is based on the salary of the highes paid 53 players (plus signing bonuses and what have you).
I got your number. I steal your thunder. I got your mother's maiden name tattooed on my arm.
welcome royoversean, even though I hate the Cowboys, I love the rivalry
Gibbs vsm Parcells will be awesome
p.s. it should be seanoverroy

When one asks a stupid question trying to annoy such as, "Do you guys really think you can win it all in two years before you are in cap hell?", one gets called an idiot!!
Death to all things remotely BLUE and SILVER!!!!!!!!!!! Hail Skins

I just had to pull some truth and facts on the whole Roy W VS Sean T. debate
You probably can see the difference between the two players by looking at their college statistics (they each left after their junior season).
Roy had 188 solo tackles and 81 assists
Sean had 130 solo tackles and 58 assists
Roy had 29 tackles for loss and seven sacks
Sean had 11 tackles for loss and one sack
Roy had nine interceptions and four fumble recoveries
Sean had 14 interceptions and no fumble recoveries
Roy had 47 passes broken up
Sean had 28 passes broken up
Roy had no blocked kicks
Sean had two blocked kicks
Also take this into consideration
1. Ed Reed played at Miami.......hummm wonder how many of his Defensive players were drafted in the first round with him. 2 CB's with him
2. Sean Taylor played at Miami....hummmm wonder how many of his defensive players were drafted in the first round. 2 LB's and one DT taken in the first round with him.
3. Roy Williams.....hummmm how many Defensive players were taken from Oklahoma in the first round or second round with him. 0 in the first and second rd
THIS BEING SAID Safeties Like Taylor and Williams need a good front line to aide them. But Williams did it at Oklahoma with no star players. The facts are there from the stats to the draft.
Comparing an established pro to a rook whose had three non-contact practices under his belt is palm reader speculation at best.
And it's gospel that it's new faces and same old skins. The Skins that won three Superbowls are back. I love those old skins.
And we'll have to wait for the season to see how these new faces come together for those old skins. But as a nick-picking observer, ready to roll my eyes at the latest deadskins incarnation, I can tell you straight up that this year is different. Nothing about this team has been this tight and buttoned up since 91.
The NFC Beast is back.

So true General - but what happens if the new talent displaces more expensive old talent in place but not doing anything?
Plus there is still the two tier bonus system that makes sure that the life of a contract is truly only so long - the person either restructures to a friendlier contract or they get cut.
Of course - at 37 Brunell may retire and save us the trouble. We don't know.
Barrow lasting til he is 40? Right. Not a MLB.
some of these problems won't be due to retirement or bonus tiering. some of the problem will go away with the bargaining agreement raising the ceiling on the money, and then the TV contracts will go higher as usual - they are predicting quite a jump.
We could be looking at 90-100 mil after the next two seasons, which could easily solve most teams problems.
I believe that they have a system that is allowing them to overcome cap issues - they said we would be having problems this year - but we didn't - we were 9 mil under.
Go figure - I don't sit in on the meetings - I am guessing like everyone else.
I am betting it won't be as much of a problem in two years as everyone thinks due to the CBA/TV contracts... just a hunch

Gambit- I personally like having you on the boards. Most of the time your opinions and replies have substance and merit, if only a little bias. But that's to be expected from from cowboys fan. The Redskins/cowboys rivalry has been legendary and well documented. That's what makes this site so great.
We are supposed to welcome open discussion and debate. And when a new voice comes to the boards, it should be welcomed in and not personally attacked and bashed. Which is what has happened here in this thread. Some of the members here need to remember that, even while one persons opinion may not match their own, that is what makes for good discussions. There is a seperate forum for that.
Everyone is(as I understand it)allowed to post, as long as your a registered member. Welcome aboard ROS!!! Hope you enjoy yourself here as much as we do.

New tv contracts bailed out the 49ers the first time they were supposed to go to cap hell.
