Defense
The defense is obviously playing well again this year and the strength of this team, however we must force more turnovers. You will see more points scored, etc. In fact there's been games that could have been over early if we could have capitalized.
This Lions game, Carlos dropped one, and we didn't pick up two Lions fumbles. It seems to happen very often. The only guys i've seen the past few years that seem to have a knack for recoveries was S.Taylor and now Horton.
Just wanted to point out there's room for improvement on the defensive side as well. Hopefully this second half of the season we'll get them.

lack of griffin today really hurt our push up the middle. i thought that carter and taylor did OK, but the lions QB was able to step up in the pocket cuz the only pressure was coming from the ends.
we need our pass rush to generate pressure from the ends and tackles if we want to do well against teams with better QBs.
a win is a win.

'Skins 2005 Superbowl champs... crazier things HAVE happened!
Does anyone know why Horton is out during so much of the game? I didn't really notice until the Rams game but it seems like hes always around the ball when he is in and as soon as they take him out of the D his position gets exploited.
Well what more would you expect out of the "Worst Team" in the "Best Division"
Everyone is hurting right now, both sides of the ball, we need that bye bad. Not just for the guys who didnt play but, the ones who did as well. Weve played a long stretch here and as violent as our D has been, its showing an effect.
The guys are gonna have to dig deep next week, playing the Steelers in week 8 without a bye in a Monday night game is almost unfair considering we had the longest pre-season too. Steelers offense doesnt impress me though, we match up well, if were healthy and have anything left in the tank, we'll be fine.

Would it be nice for the defense to cause more turnovers? Of course. But they've been outstanding so far. They're 6th in the NFL in yards allowed (278 per game) and 8th in points allowed (18.3 per game).
If the ball bounced differently in a few situations, the defense could have several more turnovers. Either way, considering the injuries to Springs, Taylor, Griffin, and Horton this week, the defense has been much better than expected.

Yeah, get that defense in gear
give me a break
the defense is ranked in the top 10 and we are saying that the've got to do better - this defense was without some key players today and had some playing who were hurt - they are not spectacular but they are a pretty good defense.

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Grif is great on the run defense, but we've got no push up the middle regardless of who's in there. We rarely collapse the pocket, with or without Grif.

Griff, Ant and Golston aren't magically going to turn into good pass rushers because we're wishing it so.
If we want a good rush we'll need to tinker with the line a bit more. We're getting a decent rush around the edges but we don't have a push up the gut. Right now, QB's can step up to avoid the DE's and don't have to worry about having a DT in their face.
We need an upgrade at DT. It's that simple.

When Marcus Wash gets healthy he'll be lining up to blitz and we can generate pressure that way, or when Horton is back we can let Laron loose to do his thing. If Springs is healthy and we the full complement of DB's we should get a few coverage sacks.
#21 (36) This IS and will always be the High watermark where all new DB's are measured.

Good point. Anybody know what our average starting position is compared to the rest of the league? We've got to be in the bottom half...

While I agree with that. I'd counter by saying that our offense needs to capitalize off of the scoring drives that they do have.
Let's say that we're getting 2 turnovers a game and our offense is doing more of the same...stupid penalties in the redzone, false starts, drops...etc...
We're getting in the redzone, we're just not scoring and the defense can't do that for them regardless if they're giving them extra attempts or not. Sure, if we give them the ball 200 times in a game just by the sheer odds of it, they'd score 30 points eventually.
-----------------
I'm just saying. Let's hold the offense accountable for their end of the deal which is to score, they aren't doing it.
The defense is supposed to stop the other team from scoring. They're doing it. If they get picks, that's icing on the cake but it's in no way the defenses fault if WE'RE NOT SCORING.

The problem is that there's no BASE push from the front 4. We've blitzed a lot in the past few weeks and it hasn't been that successful. Bottom line, we need a tough DT.

Our offense is ranked in the top 10, don't you think we need improvement there? Yeah we aren't spectacular and thats what they should be trying to reach...both sides of the ball and special teams. Super Bowl is what i want...

Offense is ranked 24TH, 24TH, 24TH, 24TH in SCORING, SCORING, SCORING.
24TH IN SCORING.
What good is a billion yards when you only score 6 points? If the offense werent shooting themselves in the foot they'd be decent.
The offenses SOLE MISSION is to score. THey don't do it consistently.
The defenses SOLE MISSION is to stop them from scoring. They do it consistently. AND HAVE BEEN FOR YEARS.

Wouldn't that be Special Teams? Bailing out the offense for not doing their job?PulpExposure wrote:Chris Luva Luva wrote:The offenses SOLE MISSION is to score. THey don't do it consistently.
That's not exactly right. The offense scores consistently. Field goals...

I think this is what we're going to have to live with... If we're not forcing turnovers and getting a short field, then we're going to need 80 yard drives to score... we don't have a quick strike offense... we run and throw short passes... that means it takes 13 plays to get in the endzone... that's a lot of opportunity for something like a sack or a penalty or a turnover or a couple incompletions... which means a lot of punts and field goals compared to touchdowns... that's just who we are...
