When I visited Scotland, I think they understood me OK, but I got lost at times:

"Sah'tn in or tahk-away?"

I learned that the answer to that can never be "yes."

Actually, with a name like Irn-Bru I'd have thought you'd have been fine over there.

My grandfather and grandmother on one side immigrated from Ireland and on the other side a longer history here but again mostly Irish. That makes me 100% American.

Irn Bru is the perfect "morning after" hangover cure. A cold glass of that and a greasy roll n' square sausage - sorted!

Interesting thread. I'm Scots-Irish, with a touch of Oglala Sioux on my maternal Grandmother's side. According to my father, who once traced our family tree, I am a distant distant (WAY distant lol) descendant of Mary Queen of Scots...

We all know how that turned out -

My heritage has been difficult for me at times, as you can imagine. The British Isles in me LOVES me whiskey (God did invent it to keep us from taking over the world, 'tis true)...but then the native American in me takes over and I have to struggle not to scalp myself...

Another interesting angle, WHO are you descended from. I'm descended from the Adams family.

Just to clarify on that, it's as in John and John Quincy, not Gomez and Morticia. Note the ONE "d." 8-[

I am related to both Rob Roy MacGregor and Leif Erikson. Also, for Washingtonians, Oliver T. Carr is my grandmother's cousin.
