Cappster wrote:I highly doubt JC has any fear of Brennan challenging him for his job. I am no expert on the matter, but JC seemed to be more controlled and concise with his movements and decision making; and for that matter, JC looks the best (body wise and decision making) he ever has in his whole career. He seemed very fluid and you can just tell how quick he is making his reads and getting rid of the ball. I hope he continues to impress and make progress. The early synopsis on the Zornholio effect is that it seems to have Campbell becoming a force to be reckoned with.

I completely agree. I think Zorn is the best thing that could have happened for Jason. I agree, Jason look real good.

I think everyone here has touched on all the high lights from last nights game. The QB's went 19-22 with 3 TD's and we only had four penalties the whole game. That's pretty damn good for the 1st preseaon game. It was definitely apparent Zorn has prepared this team well and has his QB's clicking. There will still be a learning curve, but Zorn is exceeding early expectations.

One final note. Doughty is the incumbent at SS and it's his job to lose. But if Horton continues to play like he did last night, Reed better step it up. Reed did miss on a few plays last night. He wasn't horrible by any means, but he also didn't stand out like Horton did. Horton was all over the place and was pretty impressive. It will be a fun competition to watch and may the best man win.

Probably not, but it is nice to see that we have a yound backup that has talent. I don't think really anyone thinks that he is going to challenge Jason for a job but again, its nice to see that he can make nice throws with accuracy. Did he not make risky plays out there but so have other players who have had a ton of success in this league.

As for guys not going to make the team, you are 100% wrong. Guys like Horton will make the team because they can make plays, are young and cheap. This is how good teams stay good and get used to this b/c I have a feeling the Skins have made some major changes this offseason with philosophy.

I'm for Horton over Doughty, heck I'm for Springs over Doughty or even Torrence, I see an undersized weakling out there trying to tackle the greatest athletes in the world, Reed Doughty belongs at the Pep Boys rotating my tires. Chris Horton looks like he belongs in the NFL

Your post is pretty ignorant. I would imagine that the coaches on this team know a little bit more than you about talent and who should be in the game. Doughty is a talented guy. He's not the most talented but I guarantee you if we cut him, he would go and start for another team immediately. The one thing that all the coaches said is that if/when he makes a mistake, he doesn't do it twice.

Now what I noticed last night was that the LB'rs were biting on the run fake and he had to come up and make tackles. (I've watched the game twice) The other thing I noticed is that he was slow off the snap count and Dallas Clark almost snapped Reeds ankles b/c he over pursued the play but I'm sure he will do a better job and he was covering one of the best TE's in the league.

If both pan out, that'd be a real nice problem to have, wouldn't it? :)
NO, ABSOLUTLEY NOT!!!! do you realize how many qb controversies there have been with this team.

if brennan does take the job, i hope it happens the way brady did it to brees, a no questions asked type scenario.

I said it before , I will say it again. Colt Brennan will be the QB to win the Super Bowl for our team again. Mark my words guys. It will happen within the next ten years. :)

Did you see how Jim Zorn is real chummy with him? Also Brennan is right by coach Zorns side. Also Zorns offensive scheme looks very sharp. I am feeling good baby. Yes I know its only the pre season but I seen alot of good things out there.

Also Horton and the other rookie number 40 looked real good too.

I hope Brennan isn't the QB to win a SB for the Skins, because if he is, it' means Campbell flopped for us.

Exactly.

First, I'm a big fan of Campbell and think he's going to be a solid NFL QB. I'm expecting big things from him this year.

Second, I don't believe we'll have a QB controversy for a while. If anything, the controversy should encompass Collins and Brennan, and whether or not Brennan is worthy of the #2 QB slot.

Colt played pretty darn well in the HOF game, and that should make Skins fans very happy. But Colt has an awful lot to learn and has a long road in front of him.

I see the situation playing out like this... even though I'm not a big fan of Collins, he's still a decent back up. Collins won't be in D.C. for long, but long enough for Zorn to coach up Brennan. And when that times comes for Todd to depart, whether sooner or later, we'll have 2 good QB's. The security comes from knowing if Campbell gets hurt and has to miss a few games, we have a very good QB able to step in and make plays. That, in my opinion, is the real benefit in having Brennan.

By the way, this draft class is looking real nice. I think Vinny and his staff did a pretty good job. Wait... did I just say that?

Yeah, but not in a long, long time. See, that's the point of my post; while having a QB controversy is tiresome and potentially divisive, it means you have 2 guys who can play.

For a long time, we didn't even have 1 guy who could play

Brady and Bledsoe, you mean? Or was it Rivers and Brees?

Brunell v Ramsey? Brunell v Campbell? Those don't sound very long ago...

I thought that it was a great game. We saw a LOT of potential. Let's just hope that it translates to games that actually count.

LOL!!! Minor league stuff... now, Sonny v Billy (and, oh by the way, that Theisman kid wants a job, too)... THAT was a QB controversy.

And (excepting Campbell, who is very much an unknown still), did any of those QBs solve our QB revolving door?

Not really. Unless you want to count Brunell as our "big success"....

What about the QB controversy involving Danny Wuerffel and Shane Matthews?

Does that count as a controversy?

J-load is surprisingly agile. He has all the tools to be a star but he reads D's like I read Mongolian. I was really impressed with Horton bringing him down 1 on 1 for a sack. In college I saw DL's bounce off him.

If you watched the monday press conf. Zorn mentioned how he was made aware of the extreme close up on his play sheet that I eluded to earlier in this thread, he said "I just need to write smaller" and kind of chuckled. I think that was a very bonehead moment that will probably cost us when we play teams familiar with our system including division rival Philly and conference rivals Seattle, Tampa Bay, Green Bay, and any other team with Bill Walsh/Mike Holmgren diciples.
Basically all of the plays on that sheet are now plays that teams can specifically identify and game plan against, plus with the electronic assistance the defense can be notified instantly, I think it cost us and Zorn should have been more thoughtfull and known to be more carefull exposing a playsheet, I think that cost us alot.

[dripping sarcasm]Yes, I'm sure that his play coding will remain static, and he won't change a thing.[/dripping sarcasm]

It's hard for our division rivals to be familiar with a scheme that's in its first year....

I saw a picture ESPN The Magazine ran of him, standing with his offensive linemen from Kentucky. You couldn't tell who was the QB....
