We have alot to prove this season, specifically in the opener...
We have to prove...
1. Our Head Coach knows what the heck he's doing
2. Does anyone think Blache is as good or better than Gregg W.?
3. Is this group (and by group I mean Jason C.) able to take it to
the next level?

Personally there are a lot of benefits to opening Thursday against the Giants.
As already stated, we have to play them twice anyway. If we lose, at least it's early enough in the season that it shouldn't have much of an impact.
We play our final pre-season game on a Thursday, so we have a week to prepare (unlike during the regular season when we'd only have three days).
We get 10 days to prepare for our next opponent (either to lick our wounds from the loss, or get hyped up after a win).
I really don't see much of a downside here. Sure, the giants won the SB, but they were a wildcard team too. They didn't exactly have what you would call a great regular season. They played their best when it really counted, and my hat's off to them, but they aren't exactly an unstoppable juggernaut.

Well one potentially negative aspect of playing that Thursday night game is that the coverage might get messed up because that is the last night of the Republican National Convention. NBC has already moved the game back to 7pm so that they can hopefully finish by the time that they have to cut away to McCain's acceptance speech. This shouldn't be a problem for people in NY or DC as the local channels such as UPN 20 will carry the game, but people outside of those regions might not be able to see the entire game unless the NFL Network also broadcasts it.

Maybe NBC will be smart enough to use CNBC or MSNBC for the game (or speech).

I'm pretty sure that they can't move the Convention to either one of those channels, but hopefully they do that for the game.
