What a rape job this is. Opening the season against the defending SuperBowl Champions on their home field. Isn't the defending SuperBowl Champion supposed to have the most difficult schedule?

How is playing a 10-6 division opponent on the road a "rape job"?

Actually, i think the difficulty of schedule is based on your place in the division
so the SB champion does not necessarily have the toughest schedule.

The formula locks in 6 games against your division opponents, then four games against one NFC division and four games against an AFC division.
The remaining two games are against the teams who finished in the same place in the remaining two in-conference division.

So the Skins for example, play the third place teams in the NFC North (Lions) and NFC South (saints)

But since the Giants finished second in the division, they play the second place teams in those two divisions, while the cowboys play the divisions winners.

However, the Giants will have to play the 13 win cowboys twice, while the cowboys play the 10 win Giants twice, so perhaps the Giants might have the tougher schedule...

The defending SuperBowl Champion should open the season on the road, whether they are playing the Redskins or any other team.

Hey, does anyone remember we actually beat this same team in the final part of the season with a 36 year old QB under center?

The Gints can´t be too happy about this either. Right about now they have to prove they won the SB for a damn good reason. We have to prove little or nothing.

It's been NFL tradition for several years for the defending champ to open at home -- at first on MNF and now with this special Thursday game, it's the first game of the season.

This year, it's also the final night of the Republican National Convention -- so the NFL and NBC are talking about moving kickoff up to 7:00 p.m.

What's the problem? There are only 2 things better than humiliating the Giants, at home, on opening day.
Humiliating Dallas at home on opening day, and humiliating Philly at home on opening day.

I like it. Puts the pressure on the skins to show what we have. As of right now, the count down begins for September 4th.......no excuses.

I hate playing in the Thursday night game becasue we have to wait a week and a half to play again. On the other hand we don't have to wait as long for football so YEAH.

When I first read the articles yesterday about the season opener and the possible time change, I thought it would be neat to open against the Giants in their house. I know the game has not actually been decided and the kickoff is still a question mark but we did kick their team around a little at the end of last year and at the end of the regular season we were the better team.

I hope we get this game as they will have no idea what to expect and game plan for and while I do not expect great things record wise this year I do think we are still a better team than these guys. This will then give the guys a break to get ready to play the next team. Starting out 2-0 would be a huge lift for everyone
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

They don't have crap to prove. They just won the SuperBowl, after all, stomping on the team that people kept talking about being the best of all time.

The Skins would have to play the Gnats twice, regardless of the scheduling, and there's nothing I'd like more than to start the season off with a win against the defending SB champions on their home field. I still think, and this is only my opinion, that the defending champions should open the season on the road against the division or conference opponent with the best record from the previous season. If I were making the NFL schedule I would have the schedule weighted differently from the current NFL scheduling format. That's probably a discussion for another thread.

And, at least in this particular discussion, I am not a "G-man".
More like a "B&G Man"

I'm not crazy about playing a division game in the first week. But whatever. Like you guys said, we have to play the Gnats twice anyway. Why not put them away in week 1?

Quite the optimism there. I think (and hope) that both teams will come out hard and fast. In the end, of course, I hope we prevail!

I'm hoping for a supabowl hangover from the Gnats...

This is a great way to start. Trial by fire is the best way I think. We will see what Z man can do and what the guys can do. I'm thinking Cooley's gonna have a big game here

I'm still not convinced that little Manning is slicing bread a new way. He's above average, but let's see what he's made of.
