There is a big difference between being interviewed for a job, and being offered a job.

Many have been interviewed...no one has been offered.

Snyder said from the get go that they were going to interview many candidates, and that they were going to be patient, dilligent, and thorough.

The Snyder that most, including Sally Jenkins, refer to would have jumped at the first shiny coaching prospect with a giant bag of money...they haven't done that. They are interviewing the available coaching prospects trying to select the best one available.

The "best one available" may not be the one that leads us to the Superbowl, but I take comfort in the fact that they are giving each of these candidates careful consideration before just saying "Okay, sure wanna be our HC?"

That's because Snyder couldn't find enough (if any) hooks to attach his strings.

That, or he heard these candidates speak the Proven Ways of Football which fly in the face of the Snyder Ways -- and knew he couldn't have such mutinous philosophies inside the building.

Who's to say that he hasn't done that already and said prospect had the good sense to turn tail and get as far away from this unworkable environment as possible?

riggofan wrote:Ok, so Spagnuolo turned down the offer to be considered for the job. I don't get what the big distinction is. Either way he told the Skins he'd rather be with the Giants and took himself out of consideration. Spin it however you like.

And not a single person in this thread has argued that Spags was ever officially offered tje job. You've got more straw men than George Bush in a Fox News interview.

Did you ever think that maybe Snyder told Spags, "hey I just don't think you're ready to be a HC yet, but I will let you go back to NY and see if you can help yourself there."

Then Spags went to the Giants and said, "gee I'm not sure if I really want to leave but the money is awfully tempting"

And they threw him a $6million bone and he announced he would remain in NY.

DOES THAT SOUND LIKE SOMETHING THAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED?

Now you're the one completely making things up. The reports have said that Spagnuolo left without an offer, but told Snyder that he would discuss the situation with his family and get back to him. If Snyder didn't want Spagnuolo, what was the point of agreeing to have him get back to the Skins with his decision? Spagnuolo went back to NY, got a great offer and decided to stay there, and then told the Skins that he no longer wished to be considered for the job. I have zero doubt that if Spagnuolo had really wanted the job Snyder would have offered it to him.

As for the claim that Snyder never really intended to offer him the job. Get real. If he never intended to offer the job, why wait for so long to interview him?

Obviously. But another posted claimed that Snyder never had the intention of offering him the job. Therefore, if you aren't seriously considering him, why extend the search and make the other candidates wait just to interview him?

 How many job interviews have you had? Everyone leaves an interview with the old... "ah... we'll get back to ya", whether it's the company doing the hiring or the individual interviewing for the job.

Listen, Spags is gone. He wasn't offered the job and he subsequently didn't want the job. It's over, it's done... he's gone. Time to move on.

SkinsFreak wrote:Companies will interview thousands of candidates knowing only one will get the job. It is prudent in the business world to gather all the relevant information possible before drawing conclusions. It's called due diligence. I've interviewed many people in which I had a preconceived notion they probably wouldn't ultimately be hired. That doesn't mean you only interview one guy.

That's why. And I said it was my "opinion" Snyder may not have any intentions of offering him the job, not in fact. I also don't think Schwartz had any chance either. Did you?

Schwartz? Looking back at it now, he really had no chance. However, in my opinion, if Spagnuolo had wanted the job, it was his.

What has me confused, is why wasn't Fassel given the job last week. Judging by the hire of Zorn and the promotion of Blache, it appeared that Fassel was the guy. Did Dan get cold feet because of the fan reaction? Are they not really sold on any of the candidates?

Yeah, I'm sure that's the reason  If that were the case, they could simply decline to interview.

RedskinsFreak wrote:That, or he heard these candidates speak the Proven Ways of Football which fly in the face of the Snyder Ways -- and knew he couldn't have such mutinous philosophies inside the building.

So this explains why he's even bothering to interview these guys? You realize the simple answer could have been just to let Gregg Williams run the ship into the ground don't you? Or maybe just fold the team, and liquidate it's assests.

Well, if he had offered someone an actual contract there would be a media blitz on it. Something to the effect of "Coach Insert-Name-Here turned down a #-year, $##-million dollar contract with the Redskins today..."

They can't even keep secret who they are interviewing, you think THAT'S the detail they are able to cover up?

I know this is gonna be hard to believe but Oswald really did kill Kennedy, man really did walk on the moon, there is no such thing as the Loch-Ness Monster, and Dan Snyder can't completely cover up a major contract negotiation under so much media scrutiny.

1) Joe Gibbs
2) Greg Williams
3) Bill Cowher
4) Pete Carroll
5) Jim Mora
6) Schwartz
7) Spagnuolo

I am sure I am missing a few names but you can help me out here ...

First off Joe Gibbs did not dump on Dan Snyder he RETIRED. He is what 67? And this year has been draining on him, which I would expect it to be or on anybody else at that age. Greg Williams was FIRED. He can't dump on Dan Snyder because Dan Snyder showed him the door. Bill Cowher, and Pete Carroll have TURNED down MANY OTHER TEAMS offers. Jim Mora wanted to STAY with Seattle and Spagnuolo wanted to STAY with New York because their heart was in that particular city with that team. Mora is going to be the Head coach for Seattle in 2009 which he wanted to be, and Spagnuolo may just become the head coach when Coughlin retires which I'm sure thats what Spagnuolo and the Giants were thinking.

say what you want the but DS IS A GENIUS...in one respect anyway

Two weeks ago IF fassel was hired Snyder's head was on the chopping block...now hes drawn it out so long and exhausted all our energy...we just want this process to end ....its painful now

even Dennis green has been mentioned which brings tears(utter sadness) to any redskin fan

WERE ALMOST ALL ROOTING FOR FASSEL TO GET IT NOW.....think about it

I think DS is stretching this process out as long as humanly possible meanwhile he has all of FASSEL guys in place already

and next week he will name FASSEL as the coach

and everypone will sigh with relief THAT THIS MUNDANE PROCESS IS finally OVER --and we all move on with our lives with some closure
as opposed to what would have happened if FASSEL was named two weeks ago ---its pure genius

LETS JUST HOPE FASSEL KNOWS WHAT THE HELL HES DOING --I DOUBT IT--LOL

most of these "chicken little" post are just plain rediculous.

I talked to my freind (a Pittsburge fan) that live down here in SoMD and only listens to national broadcast. He is objective and still tthinks that the Skins job is still one of the premire HC jobs in the NFL. He also says that only local media is bashing Snyder about the coaching search.

It will be OK people. Snyder just has found the guy he wants. Heck it took Atlanta two months to hire their coach.

I'm not a Fassel fan, never have been. He's weak, commands no respect, sounds soft and hasn't won... we tried that with Norv Turner. Mooch would be awesome. Gregg Williams already has a job. Looks like Fassel is going to get the job.

Yes Atlanta took two months. But they had the luxury of time. We don't. The NFL Combine starts in less than 2 weeks and free agency is in less than a month.

 HOLY CRAP!

You're right! Oh well, just forfeit the season now.

Um... we're short one guy... what the hell has the rest of the staff been doing?

I gotta think the scouting department has continued to do their jobs... right?

Yea and the head coach is one pretty important individual. Knowing what type of offensive and defensive systems you are going to run is a pretty important factor in scouting college players and free agents, don't you think? How can the front office determine which of our players we are going to cut/keep without knowing how they fit into the team? Fassel and Mooch are offensive coaches, Meeks is a defensive coach (obviously) so depending on who they hire, that could have a pretty significant impact on some of the player personnel decisions.

I know MANY Pittsburgh fans who live everywhere. Does that make my view better and more informed than yours? They do feel they are as objective as anybody else.

Danny the Clown has become the laughing stock of the NFL and -beyond-. let the media aside. Do you know that the Skins situation is being studied as one of the prime examples of DYSFUNCTIONAL management and ownership in business in at least one MBA program? Seriously.

Now I am offended.

Now I'm even more glad we did not end up with this guy - what a loser.

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Damn, talk about disgruntled. Watch out, Fassel may go postal!

And what happened "behind the scenes" actually happened right out in plain view of the entire country. AS MUCH AS FASSEL WANTED THE REDSKINS, NO ONE IN REDSKINS NATION WANTED FASSEL.

I'm sooo happy Dan didn't hire this fool. That, in it of itself, deserves an attaboy.

Gotta admit that sucks for Fassel. He gets to handpick the staff and is told to wait until Spags' interview, then gets canned. I don't give Snyder props for anything except being a douche. Sure, that's business, but I think this team is going to scare away real talent. Sure, Fassel wasn't liked by many, but the best replacement is the inexperienced guy you JUST hired as your OC?
