Movies of 2007

Post by BadgerKing »

Well we are nearly at the end of the year and as I am a mad movie fan I wanted to get some views on the best and worst of 2007

So here are my top five

1 Bourne Ultimatum-Is Jason Bourne hard or what!
2 Children of Men-Just out and out terrific
3 Knocked Up - Funny but real!
4 Hot Fuzz - British Coptastic
5 The Host - Korean Giant Eels...say no more

The worst

1 The Number 23 - Marketed as clever and cool, was actually neither
2 Norbit - Producers should be ashamed
3 Premonition - Sandra stick to comedy
4 Spider Man 3 - I hate them all, they are all junk
5 The Reaping - Everyone in the Deep South is evil officially..nonesense

And I am still troubled by Death Proof..why would they leave the cheerleader behind..WHAT HAPPENED TO HER...WHAT! :(

How could you leave out "Ratatouille"?

Or Transformers?

Not so keen on animation even if it is cute rats. The only part of Transformers I liked was the girl!!! I couldn't get past the Special Forces team taking that gizmo the Robots were after into the middle of a city! Didn't Godzilla and the Alien dudes from Independence Day do enough damage

I think Transformers was definitely a great movie this year. Especially for me since I'm 30 and I remember going crazy over the original ones when I was a kid.

What about the...
1.) Simpsons Movie- Again, because of my age, I've seen this show grow from episode 1 to the present. It's been my favorite show for a couple of decades. Movie was excellent and actually lived up to its expectations.
2.) Smoking Aces- Though totally unrealistic, this movie was just awesome man. The plot was great and I love the way all the characters seemed to have main roles. Alicia Keys was sooo friggin sexy!!!
3.) Pirates of the Caribbean 3- Before this movie came out, I had no intentions of seeing any of the Pirates movies. My girl and I decided to rent the first two and see the last one. I'm so glad I did, I think this is the best trilogy ever since Back to the Future. I woulda said Die Hard but they made it 4 now. (I haven't seen part 4, did it live up to the first 3 which are just great classics?)
4.) Superbad- This movie was 1,000,000x's more funny than Knocked Up. Knocked Up was "ok" at best for me. Superbad had me laughing from the very beginning and had me holding my piss till I left out the movie. Pick a character, any character; you'll find that role totally hilarious.
5.) 300- I mean come on now, that might just be the GREATEST of '07 in my opinion.

I didn't see Bourne yet because my girl hasn't seen the first two, but I'll get to it. I already know its gonna be sweet. The Reaping, well considering I went into it thinking the girl was evil, I liked the way they flipped the script to make her good. I think it was a decent movie but definitely not a horror movie of any sorts. #23, kind of slow for me, thought Jim Carrey was a good actor in it but it lulled me to sleep.

Also, the movie that was ALL hype and a flop.. has to go to Shrek 3. I was sooooooo disappointed because 1 and 2 were pretty damn great.

lmao@Badger and those body builders

Well see, the movie itself based on a true story to me was great and with the little extra sci-fi/fantasy made it magnificent. I'm a sci-fi/fantasy nut so I appreciated it alot. Come on now, your telling me you didn't like how it ended with ALL those guys about to go war?

But yea brutha, my girlfriend is a movie nut and ever since dating her I've become one as well.

I have to agree with BadgerKing here. The true story upon which 300 is based is one of the keystone events in Western Civilization. Without that stand to stall the Persian offensive, the Battle of Salamis never occurs and the Persians overwhelm classical Greece.

If this happens, all of our classically-derived natural sciences, philosophy, politics, law, and art would either not exist or be radically different. Our world would be an alien place. There likely would have been millenia of unbroken peace in the Middle East; Alexander would never have spread Hellenic culture across the known world; Monotheism would probably only be represented by an underground Judaic society; democracy would be an ancient, failed experiment.

Naturally, this isn't enough of a story to captivate the modern audience.
Who needs Herodotus when we have pumped-up overacting, CGI mutant rhinos, and an overall butchering of a glorious bit of history? How embarassing is it that these ridiculous embellishments are necessary to make the story relevant again?

Maybe we would've been better off if the Spartans had fled the field that day.......

This concludes my official anti-300 rant.

lol@ab.. but Ab.. you know very well brutha that if they had done it w/out the sci-fi/fantasy stuff, it may have well been a documentary or maybe a boring story made for educational tv to be shown in schools. IMO, it was a good fiction based on a true event.. yes I know a regular horse would've been good to replace the "steroid animals" but it wouldn't have been fun ya know?

Some of the best:

300
Pirates
SuperBad
Knocked Up
Hannibal Rising - the movie was ok but the guy who starred in the movie did a great job of acting
Transformers
Smokin' Aces
Disturbia

The worst:
The Number 23 - Jim Carrey is one of my favorites as a comedian and an actor but this movie was a disappointment
The Zodiac - 3 hours og my life i can never get back (yes, it was that long in theatres)
The Comebacks

the best - No Country For Old Men, 3:10 to Yuma, American Gangster

the worst - Gone Baby Gone (great book, ruined by the Afflecks)

I was just wondering if anyone in this thread would put "American Gangster" up there. So that's worth watching, BearSkins?

IMO....

The best - 3:10 to Yuma
The worst - Transformers - I grew up loving the Transformers but I thought the 2007 movie sucked.

Oh, I went to see American Gangster this past weekend and thought it was just okay, I probably had my expectation set too high.

Good movie, but definitely not one of the best of the year. Denzel should get an award for it though.

I don't usually care too much for Denzel's movies but I really enjoyed this one.

Eh, I thought it was OK ... it felt disjointed to me, it was like a series of medium length stories as opposed to a cohesive whole. It seemed like Scott was almost working too hard to incorporate the (admittedly strong) supporting cast rather than letting the two leads carry the piece.
