Well see, the movie itself based on a true story to me was great and with the little extra sci-fi/fantasy made it magnificent. I'm a sci-fi/fantasy nut so I appreciated it alot. Come on now, your telling me you didn't like how it ended with ALL those guys about to go war?
But yea brutha, my girlfriend is a movie nut and ever since dating her I've become one as well.
I have to agree with BadgerKing here. The true story upon which 300 is based is one of the keystone events in Western Civilization. Without that stand to stall the Persian offensive, the Battle of Salamis never occurs and the Persians overwhelm classical Greece.
If this happens, all of our classically-derived natural sciences, philosophy, politics, law, and art would either not exist or be radically different. Our world would be an alien place. There likely would have been millenia of unbroken peace in the Middle East; Alexander would never have spread Hellenic culture across the known world; Monotheism would probably only be represented by an underground Judaic society; democracy would be an ancient, failed experiment.
Naturally, this isn't enough of a story to captivate the modern audience.
Who needs Herodotus when we have pumped-up overacting, CGI mutant rhinos, and an overall butchering of a glorious bit of history? How embarassing is it that these ridiculous embellishments are necessary to make the story relevant again?
Maybe we would've been better off if the Spartans had fled the field that day.......
This concludes my official anti-300 rant.
