Let the debate commence!! (NY may cut 3 players)

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

How would he help? He's already demonstrated that he 1) can't or won't play in the current scheme and 2) he can't stay healthy; he hasn't played a full season in three years and has missed more than half of the season two out of the past three years.

LaVar Arrington was good, but he could have been one of the best ever... what went wrong?

He is one of the most talented linebackers, not one of the best linebackers. What went wrong is he never matured on or off the field and never learned to play with 10 other guys.

Interestingly a Penn State fan friend told me that would happen when we drafted him.

The funniest thing about this year is.

- Management is continually bashed for "overpaying" free agents

- Management is continually bashed for not signing "core" guys and letting them leave

- This year those players are rumored to be cut in droves

Wouldn't that indicate somehow maybe management was right to not pay what other teams that are now cutting them paid?

In the end, there will be criticism until we win more but that logic is still screwy. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

No because how they play somewhere else doesn't mean we would have had that some misfortune.

1. Clark played just as well there as he did here.
2. Smoot played better here.
3. Lavar played well for NY as he did towards the end of 2005.
4. Chad Morton is nothing special, same deal as when he was here.

Lavar and Clark are getting injury settlements? I assume they are the injured ones you referred to.

Chris Luva Luva wrote:No because how they play somewhere else doesn't mean we would have had that some misfortune.

This is REALLY stretching to give your team no credit at all. Not only did other teams cutting them not mean they were overpaid, but they would have played better for us. You know that, our management didn't. Yeah.

I think

- Clark, I would like to have kept. Knowing Preileau would go out the first play of the season I would have paid what Pittsburgh did. Not knowing it I think he was overpaid. I'd be glad to have him back, but not at "any price."

- Smoot, was overpaid. I'd be glad to have him back, but not at "any price."

- LaVar, was just glad to be rid of him. He was a major talent but his flaws were greater then his strengths. I don't want him back for any price.

- Chad, I agree with you.

I wasn't really getting into their pay, I was moreso talking about performance.

1. Clark wasn't overpaid but I think jumped the gun. He played well for the price he was paid and would still be starting if he had not been injured.
2. Smoot was overpaid for the performance he delivered.
3. Arrington, I didn't care that he left.
4. Chad, I couldnt care less.

Clark and Arrington worked out well for BOTH teams they went to. The ONLY reason they're being cut is because of injury and thats a fact.

So basically you have two players who were overpaid that we cut and didn't deserve it. Maybe just 1 because I dont know how much he was paid.

Mostly we're not far off in the details, I still think you are bending over to not give management credit and when other teams cut players they passed on (particularly after the first year) that is an argument maybe they were in fact right not to pay what they left for.

On the details though, I only really disagree with this:

Chris Luva Luva wrote:The ONLY reason they're being cut is because of injury and thats a fact.

If they ARE injured I might agree. But when they get injured and management learned they have more cost effective solutions it is still directly a reflection on their play. And that is a fact. They don't have to play badly to not be worth what they are paid, they only have to not play well enough to earn what they are being paid.

Why would we resign LaVar again. So he can take us (Redskins) to court again. so he can get hurt again. No thank you. His career is over and I don't want to see the Redskins resign him. The Redskins were right in getting rid of him, he couldn't last a year with the Giants. And is this case he got was he deserved. What goes around comes around and he finally got it.

My two cents:

If I were running the Skins I WOULD seriously consider having him back, but certainly only if this were at, or near, a minimum contract. I'm not, though, and I have faith that Gibbs and his staff have a better idea of whether this makes any sense than do any of us.

I would agree with you on this except I'm still irked at his 2 year crying he wants another bonus not in his contract. I am sure the bonus was tossed around during discussion, as I'm sure a lot of numbers were thrown around. In the end the guy got $60 mil and wouldn't shut up about wanting another bonus. That really ticked me off. There's a point he needed to realize he was very well paid and stop crying.

Well, he certainly won't be playing for Marty in San Diego, and he won't be coming back to the Redskins. I enjoyed waving him goodbye when he left, and his release from NY just vindicates the decision to let him go, IMO.

We definately missed Lavar last year. Our D had no spark or swagger. The linebacking last season was the worst I can remember the skins ever having. Yes Lavar did not fit the system but his recklessness and enthusiasm was absolutely missed. Last year our D looked like they were there to pick up thier checks......lots of walking and standing around even when good things happened. We definately need a hype guy like Lavar was before he started getting hurt and crying and stuff.

So much for my prediction of playing for Marty. I wonder if i have jinxing powers.

So if i were to say I guarantee Lavar ends up playing for......Andy Reid.....?

I don't think we missed him at all. The D was flat out beaten so badly on so many plays without his assistance in that regard.

THEN we can let him go to san diego and let him underachieve for marty... or we could just go with holdman and marshall.

Are you kidding me? I have a friend who lives in NYC who kept forwarding me articles in the NY press about how Arrington was slow to pick up the defense and was in serious jeopardy of losing his starting position even before the injury.

You want some proof of his just awful play?

Arrington in 6 games had 16 tackles and 1 sack. If you want to take out the game he got injured early in, that means 14 tackles (and no sacks) in 5 games.

That's production that Warrick Holdman would have been proud of.

He was cut because he wasn't performing.

So we need a cheerleader?!?!? Seriously? Someone who has PROVEN he can't/won't fit in here and, as an added bonus, can't stay healthy. What could possibly be gained by bringing in an injury-prone veteran who was cut by a team that finished 25th in overall defense? He is nearly four years removed from the last time he had a solid season. Think about it this way, if his name wasn't Arrington, this would be a laughable suggestion yet I see it discussed on this site as if it's a good idea. It is not, period.

This sounds very probable. Cincy's defense took it on the chin a lot last year too.
