Here's the official stats on each QB (according to NFL.com):

M. Brunell: 4/9, 66 yrds, 0/1 (TDs/INTs), 30.1 QB rating
T. Collins: 6/13, 68 yrds, 0/1, 30.3
J. Campbell: 9/15, 99 yrds, 0/1, 51.8

In defense of each, none (except maybe Campbell, who was the best overall) had enough time out there to get into a rhythm, so one really can't make much of this. Still, none of them really showed he had command of the position. But, as has been said many times, it's PRESEASON.

Collins threw 13 passes. That should be enough to get into rhythm, especially since he knows the O. Campbell looked pretty good except for the INT. He needs to learn to get deliver the ball more quickly. This should improve as he gets more experience with his receivers. I also saw a tendency to concemtrate on 1 receiver instead of keeping all of them in view.

There definately are way too many people freaking out over last nights game. You have to remember that it's just preseason and that to a lot of these guys this game is only about getting their reps in and preparing for the season. With that being said, there were some definite problem areas last night that could cause us a lot of problems during the season, namely oline and cb depth. The second string oline was flat-out awful. It looks like we are definately going to miss having Ray Brown around. An injury to one of our starters and we could be in some real trouble. Molinaro is probably our best backup at this point and that's not saying very much. The play from our backup CB's was equally pathetic. I'm not sure what Kenny Wright was doing on that touchdown pass to Chris Henry because he made no effort to actually cover that route. Henry and Washington abused Wright all game long, and I cant' believe that I am saying this but it looks like we might actually miss Walt Harris. As bad as Harris sucked atleast he put forth some effort.

It's hard to judge individual backup O linemen. They rarely show them isolated on TV. Overall, they played poorly, but the coaches had better views, more experienced eyes & the benefit of tape. Let's hope that there were a few who played well as individuals.

It's at times like this that I'm glad I don't get to see any of these games. I don't have to worry myself about the play of a second string safety or back-up tight end. But I do worry about injuries, because that's one thing that you can't put right in practice. The Portis injury really worries me at this time. Too early to tell, but shoulder injuries seem to have a habit of lingering for a long time.

i couldn't agree more. i was trying to explain this to my wife last night when she was asking what was going on! i told her not to worry, because during the season there might only be a small few of these backups out there at once, so we only need a few of them at a time to not suck.

He moved the team but could not get them past the goal line. He got Portis hurt because of a really stupid play (not blaming Brunell, but a Redskin wasn't where the ball was). I read somewhere that his q-back rating for the night was worse than Collins (30.1 to 30.7). But as I said, this is the 1st pre-season game. It counts for nothing except for the guys trying to make the team and injuries. Don't take offense because someone criticizes Brunell. Also, keep in mind that many, many people, have said that it takes a year to get used to Saunders offense. (I hope they were wrong.) Expectations are running high even though that statement that has been made many, many times. We have 3 more pre-season game to go, I will worry if the last one looks as bad as this one did.

Frankly i would have been alot more concerned if my starting unit only had -19 yards against the other teams starting unit. (count it, that is -9 + -9, -11 + -8, 0 yards + -19 yards) I am not taking offense to anything said about Mark, but your doomsday outlook on the quarterback position was a little over the top. Our top offense sure looked a lot crisper than Cinncinati's did, and in that alone i can rest a little bit better. I agree with you that preseason is preseason, however, we shouldn't be counting quarterback ratings in preseason, because after all its just......preseason!

Redskins Rule wrote:I didn't think the game was all that bad! There were quite a few bright spots!

One of them was Campbell! This was the first game where he saw extensive action and considering that..........I think he did darn good! Can't wait to see what he's gonna do next week against the Jets at home!

The other one was Lloyd! Get this! He's our number two reciever and he ACTUALLY GOT SEPARATION FROM THE DEFENDER!!!!! I can't remember the last time our number two reciever did something like that!

Another one....had to be Rocky. Anyone else see him just run right by a blocker and knock the crap out of a running back on........I can't remember if it was second and short or third and short. Whatever it was that was an awesome tackle!

Now, I know Collins looked awful, but he didn't even look half as awful as that Cincy reciever who caught that 40 yard touchdown pass! He made an ass out of himself with that dance he did!!!!!! He very seriously has me thinking that he is gay! :)

I saw where Rocky only made 2 tackels. I saw three. Does anyone else agree with me? Also, I note Holdman did nothing, no tackles again. The writing's on the wall. Why's the guy in there?

The close-together incidents of Portis' injury and the end of the starters' playing time pretty much signaled the end of my needing to devote regular-season attention.

There are problems throughout many parts of the backup corps -- O-line, cornerbacks and, for now, quarterback.

Why is Collins on the chart at all. We'll going to miss Ramsey. That was a horrible, stupid move. Brunell's not going to make it.

crazyhorse1 - I'll give you credit on Collins not looking like the #2 QB last night, but, I'd much rather have JC come in at #2 than to revisit the wait-and-see apporach with Patrick. He went to NJ for a chance to start, and sounds like he's barely holding on to his backup spot up there.

Jump on the JC bandwagon already!!!! What's taking you so long?

I didnt see a 3 wr set with the first string O. That formation is going to be the foundation for the passing game. Correct me if im wrong, moss and lloyd made nice catches on the first drive and thats without randle el in the slot who would no doubt divert attention to him. So we are basing the O on what really? a 2wr set with a 3rd string rb against a starting D running vanilla routes in a hostile environment in the very first frickin game of the year. I promise brunell will have less pressure and more targets come regular season. Oh, the D looked Dominant and i dont use that term loosely.

I've been (and taken much abuse for having jumped) on that particular bandwagon for months now! I still don't think Brunell will finish the season, and hope JC gets in there sooner rather than later, so he's ready for the post-season.

I think perhaps everyone should take a look at the threads from the 2005 preseason to put this into perspective. There was much grumbling about how awful the 'skins looked, and I'd say that by January, everything worked out okay. We're at the very beginning of the season. All you worried moms out there need to just calm down (no offense to worried moms).

crazyhorse, I don't think we are going to miss Ramsey. If what I read is right, he has not been very impressive in NY. I think Campbell will be able to handle it. That is I hope Campbell will be able to handle it if Brunell gets hurt, which I sincerely hope doesn't happen. Brunell may have an age issue and sometimes a performance issue but he is still the quarterback and as he goes, so will the Redskins. If he stays healthy, the Redskins may even have a shot at the Super Bowl this year.

two words keep me from panicing.

Osaka Japan

After that game, you couldnt have told me we wernt winning the superbowl under spurrier. So im not worried in the slightest... yet.
few things i thought though:

Starting Offense looks pretty good, and brunell just threw i lazy pass. Hopefully wont happen again im sure.

Starting D looked fierce! not worried about defense.

Todd collins is high

Jason Campell sure as hel! better go into next game as the #2. I thought he looked very good. Poised, good dropback, looked pretty damn cozy in the pocket, and threw a few VERY good passes. That pick is just somthing younger players need to learn from.

But make no mistake, we got out butts kicked pretty good. Im glad it happened now so hopefully serve as a good reminder. Anxious about next week...

It looked much like last years first game which we got manhandled by Carolina 28-10. Pretty much bad in every aspect of the game. I will say that our starting D was the stand out. They looked sharp! Pretty good pass rush as well.

In the Post's article about the game, I saw these quotes:

"I don't think any one of us looked particularly good," Gibbs said.

....

"It was a disappointing set of circumstances," Gibbs said. "For us, it's really hard to find a positive."

So should we kick Gibbs off the bandwagon, too? On TV Gibbs called the game "awful", so I'm inclined to go with what he says. Yes, it's preseason, and no, it doesn't count for jack, but it could've been better; that's all anyone is saying. I still think this team will do great things this year and for years to come. It's probably good they get a wake-up call in preseason, so they don't get caught up in the hype too much.

Thats because we know Gibbs. We could have score 100 points and he would have downplayed it.

Gibbs said nobody looked particulary good but thats not true. Not that he's a liar but the team as a whole didn't look good. There were tons of good individual performances but hes not going to single anyone out and make others feel like trash.

We're going to need you to try harder next time.
