the link for voting is above, but i was disgusted to see that last season's "Monday Night Miracle" Week 2 against Dallas, was not on the list...

you gotta be kidding me.

Why would Howard Cossell announcing John Lennon's death be on the list for "Best" Monday Night Football moment?

Cowboys beating us by 1 in our house gets nominated. Us beating them in Dallas by 1 does not.

Disgusting. Not 1 positive Redskin play. How is a player suffering a career ending injury a "great moment"? My favotite was Ken Houston stoping Walt Garrison on 4th & goal from the 1 to preserve a win.

Well, if the poll was for this past season then yeah, that would be dumb.

But the poll for best all time MNF moment, and while Santana torching Dallass was the best for a Skins fan, it didn't really have that much significance.

I think it'd get mentioned under great MNF comebacks. It'd rank high on that list imo.

Well, they DID miss the best MNF moment...

Rookie Darrel Green running down Tony Dorsett from behind, and that weasel Cosell announcing "that little monkey can run!"

Apparently, Cosell was untouchable at ABC. I was sure that would happen as well, but, unlike Jimmy the Greek (who was skewered, and cooked live over an open fire), we never heard a word about a reprimand, nor an appology to Green.

Cosell drew criticism during one Monday Night Football telecast in September 1983, for calling a wide receiver for the Washington Redskins, Alvin Garrett, a "little monkey." While some saw the term as having a racial connotation, many who knew Cosell were quick to point out that he used this term routinely in an approving way to describe quicker, smaller players of all ethnicities. Among the evidence to support this claim is video footage of a 1972 preseason game, between the New York Giants and the Kansas City Chiefs, that features Cosell referring to Mike Adamle, a 5-foot-9-inch, 197-pound Caucasian, as a "little monkey."

He meant nothing by it.

Check your memory - he actually called Alvin Garrett a "little monkey".

"In 1983, during a Monday Night Football matchup between the Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys, he referred to Redskins wide receiver Alvin Garrett as a "little monkey." Following two months of intense public pressure, he resigned from the MNF broadcast team."

And DG catching Dorsett was nothing more than amazing. Great play.

That sucks that he had to resign but you have to be more careful of what you say in public.

Howard was referring to the fact that Alvin Garrett had long arms.

He didn't mean anything racist by it. If Alvin had been white he would have made the same comment. It was more in reference to his size than anything else. Alvin was one of the smurfs.

Cool

But... I remember it... like yesterday... or was that the day before yesterday...

Hey, did you see that video of Darrell Green running down Tony Dorsett from behind? Or was that Dwayne Thomas? Calvin Hill? Moose Johnson... no, not him... he was kind of slow... Oh, he ran somebody down from behind... or was if from the side... Yes, I remember it like it was yesterday.

At least the Theismann's leg game was a Redskins' victory.

Man, that was ugly. LT immediately jumped up, and started screaming and waving for the trainers... you knew it had to be bad, because he was completely bent out of shape.

Then they replayed it... close... ugh...

And that game is in there as "Dallas rallies to win opener at RFK Stadium (Sept. 5, 1983)." It has the second to worst rating. 8)

Humor seems to be in short supply here. My last post was a deliberate attempt to poke fun at myself. My post in between should have been the clue. :?

I think I disagree. Remember to put those two catches in the context of the Redskins-Cowboys rivalry...and how the Cowboys have been handing it to the Redskins for years and years and years.

Those two catches, in one night, brought back that rivalry.

Significant? I certainly think so. I think any NFL fan worth his salt would also think so.

Also consider the additional context of the game: Gibbs vs. Parcells; in Dallas, a place where the Skins had dropped 9 in a row and, the sweetest part of all, the Cowboys HOF induction for Aikman, Irving and Smith. Definitely an all-time moment

Not to mention the fact that those two TD's were the first TDs the 'skins had scored that season (the Chicago game was won on FGs). The 'skins had gone 7 1/2 quarters without a single TD, and were (if I'm remembering correctly) the last team in the entire league to score an opening TD in the '05 season. Joe Bugel himself called it "50+ minutes of bad football" up until BOOM - two scores in ~5 minutes, and the 'skins went home the victors. Prior to that, it looked like the '04 season all over again - great defense, no offense.
One doesn't have to be a 'skins fan to remember it as a great game for a lot of reasons.

FURTHERMORe, as mur pointed out, the redskins offense up to that point in joe gibbs' tenure had'nt done "DIDDLY POO", as former Colts Coach Jim Mora would have put it. Until that last 3 minutes, it had to be one of the most uneventful games I'd seen in recent years. Think about it, how many people the next morning, picked up the paper and jaws dropped in shock that the skins actually won?

You would think, but all my friends said it was a stupid lucky game that the Skins won because Roy Williams is a moron.

I mean, everytime I bring it up, they just blame the game on Roy Williams stupidity, which I can't really argue.
