Did you know that Jeff's favourite album is by Boyz II Men? Now, they were really great. :puke:

Actually, I'd never heard of them, but one look at the website (I blame you for that), and I can tell exactly what they sound like.

BTW - For those who may be unfamiliar with Razorlight, check em' out. They are pretty cool with a very unique sound.

Yes, they are popular, for sure. Don't get much of a look in on a lot of radio stations, but very few bands with guitars do. Some think that it's a contest between them and Muse for the role of "next big thing" from these shores.

Oh, is Razorlight a 2nd generation Radiohead band too?

Jokes aside, perhaps I should check them out, as I also happen to like Muse.

Difficult for me to say, since I never managed to listen to more than 7 seconds of Radiohead without trying to beat myself to death with the nearest kitchen utensil. :)

I once read a review of a Muse concert that described them as being reminiscent of Queen. Work that one out.

You're supposed to be naming bands that you wouldn't tell your friends that you like.

When you're in the business I'm in (highway construction-recently, supervison) and you're surrounded by iPods blasting the latest guy to take a bullet in the butt and call himself "streetsmart" and others who range from mid-eighties metalheads (like I used to be) to some real aggressive people who think disco died unfairly (I do not)...some things, you keep your John Denver stuff to yourself. It's a professional decision. My kids know that my beginnings on the guitar are rooted firmly in what I grew up around, but my co-workers and "friends" do not.
Barry Manilow was mentioned, and I have no specific problems with him. I can listen to him, but I don't own anything, and I don't sing along. There's no denying the man can push a note...it's just not my thing. I also grew up around the BeeGees music, as my parents were mainly flower children.
I can go word for word on Harry Chapin, too.
I guess the older I get (38, now), the less I care about what other people think about what I like...which turns out to be more and more what I grew up on.
Weird, huh?
I'm sorry if my entry into the topic wasn't the soul-baring, all-cards-on-the-table "Oh MY GOD! Captain & Tenille and the Village People! Please don't tell on me!" that you were looking for. I'm a generally boring person to begin with. :)

That's a really frightening thought. Gangs of hooligans wearing flared hipsters, chest wigs and knuckle dusters.

Swiftly back to topic - I think there may be an age factor here. As I get older, I care less and less about what others think of my tastes, hobbies and interests. So, is there any music I like that I wouldn't tell my friends about? No, I really don't think so - ten years ago, the answer migh have been different.

I can understand that! I wasn't really thinking of co-workers, but more my old college buddies. I'm a few years older than you, and I love Harry Chapin, Jim Croce, and like some of John Denver's older material. I have hugely varied tastes, ranging from classical, to bluegrass, to folk, to jazz, to rock, to old country, to reggae, to zydeco... I just thought the thread's purpose was to get at that Captain & Tenille, Starland Vocal Band, Donnie and Marie type stuff that would make you the object of ridicule for years to come, were anyone to find out.

Until "Ron Burgundy" came out, I'm pretty sure Starlight Vocal Band was comfortably forgotten.
Believe me...when you have to try to explain how people found appeal in "Afternoon Delight" to a querying 15 year old, you have your work cut out for you.

Not quite that aggressive. ROTFALMAO

Let me tell you something, though. I have a guy on my day crew. 39 or so, Latin ethnicity. Bare-knuckles, no-nonsense type...the guy who will wait by your car after work hours to settle some disagreement that you'd already forgotten about...his way. Not a guy to tangle with, to be sure.
We've always gotten along, from the days when I was his co-worker...and I've always known and kept his little secret.
Donna flippin' Summers! He's a huge fan of hers, and of disco in general.
(He's also known to be encyclopaedic in his knowledge of 70's television show themes. Sadly, there's no help for him.)
