You took it personally, as a Cowboys fan, when people in the Redskins forum "HogWash" ragged on a Redskin who didn't want to be a Redskin anymore and was threatening to hold out in Camp if we franchised him ?
Is this the Agent-To-Be speaking, or a Cowboys fan ? Tell me again, I need to know.
Gambit, it's nice that you can rhyme. Your parents have raised a very clever boy. (Or is it, "freestyle" ? I don't know. I'm too old for this crap.) Either way, your point is apparently "You said Champ wanted this-or-that, so he wanted more money. Portis shows up wearing this-or-that, so you're wrong for being angry with Champ, because Portis is no better."
I dispute that. Portis was willing to come here. Champ was unwilling to stay. Champ knew Gibbs wasn't going to pay a CB all the money he wanted AND take chances with that highly-paid CB on offensive plays. Has Portis requested to also be a safety ? Nope. So, no comparision can be made. For the record, Champ Bailey said that $55 million dollars wasn't enough for him to take care of his family.
What do you have in the way of a real beef here, Agent ? I'm waiting.

Clinton Portis is just young and brashful but DON'T say he's not humble. He's confident, not cocky.. yes those shades were pretentious but look.. Champ immediately bashed us saying he's a first class player that needs to be w/ a first class organization while Portis had nothing but good things to say about Champ and how it would be an honor to be traded for Champ. Then at the press conference he says nothing but nice things about Denver and its organization. He also goes on to NAME Redskins players who he's looking forward to working with and is always commenting on Coach Gibbs. He's already shown more class then Champ ever did here. Champ should've thought about Darrell Green and how he is loved here for being LOYAL for over 20 years. He now has showed us.. he's NO Darrell Green.

Guys Champ didn't wake up one morning and say I don't won't to be a Redskin!! Why is it so hard to belive that Champ got bitter over the years at the way Snyder threw money around to overated FA.

TC you say Portis wanted to come here and Champ didn't...How do you think the Denver fans feel...just the opposite

I know many will disagree, but this is a guy who DS let slip through the cracks. While he coveted other teams all-pro players he forgot about his. No amount of money DS threw at Champ would have made him stay...sure he offers him a decent contract which we know was no where near what Champ was going to get on the market. I didn't want to pay the price for Champ now but, I think we could have got him cheaper a few years ago.

BTW where are all the players we were supposed to get with the Champ money...we got Portis and Springs...where's the pass rush that would make not having Champ palatable?

DE, my point was based on our own perspective. I don't presume to speak for Denver, and I challenge you to find that in my post. Champ didn't want to be here, Portis did. There's another thread posted about who we got with Champ's money. I believe it was Brunell and Portis. A good trade, if you ask me. Let's get busy, sir. You sound like you're up for it tonight.

Man TC you kill me..you coming to camp I got to meet you!!

Ok, I told myself I wasn't going to talk about Champ anymore?? I'm gonna regret this but here goes.

As for only looking at it from our view take off you B&G glasses for a second I knew what you meant.

Portis and Brunell...I thought the whole idea behind not paying Champ was to beef up the D-Line..I know it's early but I don't see anything thats scares me yet!!

BTW the way I've seen three different cap number for Portis today 3.5...4.2...5.4 ???

Oh, you'll meet me. I'll be the fat bastard with the 13 year old in tow.
Now, onto Champ-for-Portis. Let's get some guidelines here. Do you agree or not that Bailey hinted all year that he wasn't looking to come back ? Here's some evidence, in case you're not sure.(I paraphrase here.) "If they don't bring back my DC, they might as well not bring me back, either." "If they do that, they might as well franchise me." "If they franchise me, I'm not coming to camp."
Do we agree, or disagree here ?

"How he got there" can't be considered, although I'd certainly agree that Snyder and the revolving door played a part. Tell me, then. Which part of my post rubbed you wrong ?

It seem that people are bashing Champ for the same thing Portis did. At least Champ honored his contract. TC you will see more tude from Portis in one year then you saw from Champ in 5! And watch out if Portis doesn't get "his carries"

...and that's in the future, which is over my head. I can't predict the future, Delaware's # 1. What I CAN do is stand by my post, which was all about Gambit coming in here and saying that he was offended by those of us here badmouthing Champ. Why should he give a crap ? I wasn't one of them. Now that Bailey is gone, though...what's done is done, and Portis gets my full attention and priority because he wanted to be here when Champ ditched me (us !) like yesterday's newspaper. Did anybody out of the F.O. promise me D-Line help when Champ left ? Nope. What they promised me was that this would be Joe Gibbs' team, and he'd build it as he saw fit. So far, so good. There are still those out there that could come in, still more to visit. Do I think Williams could do a better job with the very same personnel we had last year than what's-his-name did ? Oh, hell yeah ! Do I think he can do it with what we have now ? Again, a Stone Cold "yes". Can we do more ? Yes. Do we have to debate Champ Bailey any further than we have ? Nope. It's the Clinton Portis era now, whether we are all down with that or not. That's our bag. Take it or leave it, Champ is gone because Champ wanted to be gone. This is who we got in return. Let's get behind Portis now, as I know you surely are. Gambit can certainly find things to worry about in his own house.

Just looking at it from Champs view...of course I will be in Portis camp..he is a Skin now. And yes I agree these coaches can do much more with these players. I know Champ wanted out if he wanted to stay they would have found a way. Your right Champ is gone!! I have not started any Champ threads but when people continue to bashed him "unfairly" I will continue to offer my opinion.

What, in your view, is "unfair" ? Just for the sake of argument (which you really don't have with me, do you, since I'm more hurt by his leaving than angry ?) who here has treated Champ unfairly ?

I guess I point the finger at those who say his tude sucked because he didn't want to reup with us. I don't think that out weights the 5 great years he gave us. I will also add those same people didn't question his talents...I totally understand and respect their veiw. This is a business...Portis and Champ did what was best for them, I question Portis' tude way before Champs. You know TC I'm old school (like you) Players today care about 3 things Fortune,Fame and a ring and in that order . When you can catch a player working for all 3 watch out their great. Champ and Portis were like that now lets see what they do.

Also don't forget the 2nd round pick...will be interesting to see who it is.

BTW...isn't it sweet scrolling down the page and seeing Art and Donnie!!

Post by JOJATK »

Why is it bad for these guys to want to make the most amount of money that they can? I mean let's not kid ourselves folks. These guys are in it to make money and that's cool with me. They provide entertainment and I have no problem with them getting paid whatever the market will bear.

And if the higher ups want to pay Clinton Portis a bunch of dough and that makes Clinton Portis extremely happy to be wearing the burgundy and gold then that's cool. Clinton Portis has never given less than 200% on any play and now he's ecstatic to be doing that in a Redskin uni. Out-freaking-standing!!!

And if this trade is a win-win for both teams and the players then that's kewl too. Though I still wish the 'Skins hadn't thrown in that 2nd round pick, but I'll get over that with some more therapy ;)
