I would puke if we get Antonio Bryant....I think he has potential, but the things that I have heard about his character are what bothers me. Our second receiver has to be a quality guy because in all honesty we have a 70+ catch H-Back in Cooley, and a 80-90+ catch guy in Moss.

Not only that, we are a run first team (right now) and we can't have some crybaby who is going to be upset by his limited role in our offense.

Dude threw a sweaty towel in Parcell's face. Now, that's cool because it's Parcell's, but if he tried anything like that with another player, our QB or one of our coaches because he wasn't getting the ball, we would have wasted money on him.

If we do get him, I hope he proves me wrong.

What do you really know about his character? That he had an outburst with Bill Parcells?

None of us know anything about Bryant on a personal level.

It might be that he DOES have some problems, but none of us can possibly judge his character having never met him. We can only speculate.

He's talented enough, no one can argue that, but we'll see if Joe Gibbs interviews him. If he passes the Coach Gibbs test then I'd gladly welcome him.

I don't really want Bryant, either. I still remember during Darrell Green's last game in 2002. Bryant scored a touchdwon and ran over to the Cowboys sideline and tore down a Redskins blanket a fan had hanging up on the sideline wall. I've disliked him ever since.

Bryant also had a run-in with the law at an airport before he got drafted.

Yes, I agree with you Hogster. Though none of us like Parcells for the obvious reasons. I still think he deserves and usually gets the respect of and from his players. He is a winner and for this kid to pull something like that was just wrong and thugish. If this would have happened to coach Gibbs. Well,i shudder to think of the bad thoughts i would have hoped to happen to Bryant. I realize emotions run high when you are tired and in the heat of training camp. As we all know Parcells likes to push the envolope a bit with his players. I still think you have to maintain your composure to a certain point.

Sean Taylor--still here, pending trial.

Patrick Ramsey--presumably gone soon for a draft choice

Rod Gardner--long gone

Arrington--gone

Samuels--a keeper, good pick

Champ--gone

Stephen Alexander--????????????????

Kenard Lang--long gone

Andre Johnson--????????????????

Michael Westbrook--long gone, but stayed long enough to throw helmet and lose game to Big Blue.

Heath Shuler--enough said

Tom Carter--long gone

Desmond Howard--long gone, but good kick returner

Our 1st round percentage is not that good in the past the pick might be good for a decent reciever.

None of us know anything about any of these player's personal character unless you know the guy or went to school with him. I think when people speak of character in a football context, they speak of the player's ability to be coachable, be a good teammate, be unselfish, approach the game as a professional even when you are not on the field, and just generally be a pro and perform as such.

Do I know how good of a father, or how charitable he is? No, but that is not what people generally speak of when football authorities evaluate character.

What do I know about Antonio Bryant? Enough to not want him to disrupt our team chemistry.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1905409
(traded to Cleveland, Jerry Jones cites his temperment as not a good fit, this coming from an organization that took Keyshawn Johnson, apparently they think he has a poorer attitude than that)

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1818510
(Starts beefing with Parcells, security has to escort him from the practice field. He is suspended)

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/04165/331028.stm
(article from Pittsburgh explaining why Bryant's pension for personal foul penalties and immaturity lead to the Steelers avoiding him and taking Antwan Randel El in the draft)

I am not saying that a guy can't change, I am sure he could, but when you are talking about adding a piece to our team that could take us to the next step, is it a risk worth taking on this kid? In my opinion, for another team yes, but for us no.

He hasn't shown that he can behave since Pitt and Dallas, he calmed down a bit last year, but apparently not enough to convince Romeo Crennell to re-sign him.

I just fear that when the going gets tough, he will show why he is so emotionally volatile. What would he have done when we were 5-6? Judging from his past, he would complain that he's not getting any balls. Remember, we went a stretch of 2 and 1/2 games where no other Wide Receiver caught a ball from Brunell...all the catches went to Cooley, Moss, Sellers, Royal, and Portis. What does a guy like him do in that situation? Is it worth investing free agent money in him, when there are other guys who would be workhorses regardless to touches.

I am not saying I can answer the question, but as long as he's a question mark, I would stay away from him.

I know this was probably talked about already, and a bit off-topic, but if we could somehow trade for Javon Walker that would make our receiving corps pure-nasty. I read he wants out of Green Bay, bad. So nasty. Am I dreaming?

I would LOVE to have Brandon Lloyd as our #2 reciever, but not at the expense of a first round pick or even a 2nd for that matter. Also I wouldn't mind having a package to get Lloyd and Andre Carter like the article says, who could be our new starting DE

We only give up a first if we outright sign him, ie like the L Coles situation. From what I've read, we're looking to trade for him, presumably for far less than a 1st round draft pick.

If you're going to rip off someone else's post, either credit it, or quote it. That's uncool as hell imho.

And it's still as wrong as when Echalje posted it. Stephan Alexander wasn't a first round pick. Missed Charles Rogers and Campbell from last year.

Our first round percentage is actually pretty good, but our retention rate isn't fantastic. Look at who was picked; Arrington & Champ are multiple pro bowlers, and have moved on. Good picks, just not retained. Kenard Lang is still playing in the NFL. Tom Carter had a long NFL career. etc.

Again I ask, What has he done since departing Texas?
Pre-draft reports and a rookie dealing with the Tuna all in the past.

He played in more games last year for Cleveland than passes he caught for that team in Texas. Maybe the Tuna couldn't deal with him. He's had 3 head coaches in 3 years only one had a problem with him.

1000+ yards, average more than 60 per game, 6-2 188lbs. and he moved the chains 45 times last year.

BTW: Clevelands #1 wideout was Dennis Northcut not someone the likes of Santana

I agree, and like I said. I'll let Joe Gibbs talk to him and decide. He's much better qualified than me, or a reporter.

I didn't say that he couldn't or hasn't changed, I said that it is a risk because in our system, he may not get nearly as many touches as he wants. Being run oriented, and having Santana and Cooley accounting for most of our passing offense, Bryant may not become a star here. He may go stretches without the ball, and people who are interested in their own bottom line tend to get antsy in a situation like that.

Not to say that he would flip out, but if you are danny and you have 7 million dollars to spend on someone, are you willing to take the risk that he will get disgruntled if Brunell can't get him the ball, or if Brunell gets hurt and Campbell struggles as ayoung receiver?

You could be right, but I'm saying its a question mark and in my opinion I would rather go after a guy who has proven that he can behave even when things are tough.

Whoa, that video is amazing!

Especially the snag where he just reaches up and takes it from the Philty CB!

However, that being said, if we would have to give up a 1st rounder for him, then I would say no.

Also, he seems to me like a guy who after he signs that big time deal, his production would slack off and he would put all his time and $ into his rap stuff.

But as a free agent, I would love getting him.

I heard we may be giving up a 3rd and 4th round pick for Lloyd....my source is decent, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I made a catch like that one he did against the Giants ONCE!! LOL Notice I said once! I jammed 2 fingers doing it. I dont have big enough hands to easily palm the ball like that. A lot of times I can impede its momentum and catch it still with one hand.

Jake is the man with hands of glue. He can catch real smooth like.

Just relax, a simple cut and paste, I wanted to "quote it " but I didnt know how to get it from one thread to another. The point was you never know with a first round pick, you win some you lose some. Sometimes a guy is worth the first round pick. I do apolagize to Echalje, no harm was intended.
