Methinks your thread title is a little deceptive. When I click that link i get the follwoing:
Cartwright, Team Are Close on a Deal

By Jason La Canfora Howard Bryant
and
Thursday, March 9, 2006; Page E09

The Washington Redskins were close to agreeing to terms with running back Rock Cartwright yesterday, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, preventing him from becoming an unrestricted free agent. Cartwright is popular among players and coaches for his attitude and work ethic, and he is a key contributor on special teams.

Awesome! Nice to see Clemons got a qualifying offer as well. He may even be starting next year!

Nah, I don't think so. I think Betts is still a better runner. IMO

Not really. Betts played well and was consistent as a #2 back. He never did anything that pushed him past the pack or screw up anything up bad enough to make us want to get rid of him. He also played well when Portis was hurt. He was mostly invisable to casual fans and that's what you want our of a #2.

Somehow, I don't see much change coming in the running game, although I was hoping that we'd find a 4x4 plow truck to get through the heavier stuff. :)

Yeh i agree. I was hoping we'd look for a big back that could plow over people. If we do look for one, i heard Alstott is a FA. But back to topic, im glad we're keeping our "CORE" guys together. :D
Nothing's more exciting than a life of a Redskin fan. haha yuuup.

Our problem wasn't 3rd and short, its was 3rd and 8. We need help on 1st and 2nd down. I think that any of our rb's can pick up 2 or 3 yards. I mostly feel that Betts is best for short yardage plays. He's sneaky fast and nimble.

Actually, Portis ended the year second in the league in runs of 5-9 yds. A lot of those were on 1st and 2nd down. I think the primary problem was playcalling. We would get into 3rd and longs when we didn't mix it up. I think we will be better at that this year.

IF our line is healthy. We definitely need more depth at the O line positions. Playcalling could definitely be better. That was pretty clear in the playoff loss to Seattle but Al Saunders should help with that.
Moss, ARE, Lloyd, Cooley, Portis, Fauria....Too many weapons!!
