pass defense problems
it seemed like they were making thos 10-15 yard completions at will during the 2nd half against us. how concerned should we be about this?
obviously it wasn't TOO bad, i mean, holding any team to 17 points is pretty darn good, especially when they are a pretty good offensive team. it just wasn't the dominant defense i expected to clamp down the lead we got.
our rookie CB got the start as walt harris rested an injury. rogers looked pretty good but you could tell he is still learning and not quite at the level harris has been playing. plus ade jimoh was bumped up to nickelback and that can't have been good. add to that the fact that prioleau was also resting an injury, and sean taylor came out for a lot of the game with a shoulder injury (if i'm understanding that correctly).
it seems like all of these injuries are relatively minor and most if not all these guys should be back in the game next week or shortly thereafter. my bet is if we had those guys back in, the seahawks would probably never have been close to winning. i'm not going to get too worried until jimoh becomes an every week starter.
**i am perhaps unfairly assuming that jimoh was the one getting beat pretty often. if this is not true, please correct me. it's just sort of become a habit to blame jimoh.

The CB's that we had starting today displayed our glaring weakness. They didn't play too bad but they arent good enough to compensate for our horrible pass rush. We're blessed to have our starts play as well as they do in these situatins.
Taylor is hurt.
Clark still isn't 100%
Bowen isnt 100%
Prioleau isn't 100$
Walt is hurt
Rogers is young
Ade sucks
We did extremely well considering these circumstandes.

I was more disspointed in the rush than in the corners. Springs played well as usual and Rogers did well considering that he was making his first career NFL start. There is only so much that a corner can do if there isn't an effective pass rush and today Hasselbeck had all day to throw the ball. Even when we blitzed it didn't seem to be that effective. We have to improve our rush significantly if we want to beat teams like the Broncos, Chiefs, and Eagles.

Weren't they the #2 offensive team in the league coming into this game? If they stuck with the quick 5-10 yard passes all game long, we would have lost. They started out that way and the Skins didn't cover those passes at all.
All in all, however, although the defense could have played better, I'm proud that our defense held the #2 offense to only 17 points.

I am really concerned with the lack of pressure from the pass rush. I honesty think that they should use the "Six-Million-Dollar-Man" Lavar as a DE like L.T. was used. The worst that could happen is that teams will run to his side more. Our LBs and CBs are good enough too make up for that. He would be a "speed rush" threat on the pass and would be fast enough to run down plays going to the other side.

I thought the D was great as usual. They gave up a few plays but nothing big.
I feel like this Gregg Williams D has been very vanilla so far this year. We are playing very conservatively just like our offense. We haven't blitzed that much.
The thing that really sticks out though is turnovers. In week 1 we had 1 FF and 1 int and since then nothing. Only the Ravens and Texans have less. Then sacks, 4 in three games. Only Carolina (yes Carolina) and Cleveland have less.
But we are still 5th overall and tied for fourth in scoring. It's almost like we're playing a prevent D all the time but it's working. I think this actually shows just how GOOD our secondary is. They are disciplined and don't need that much pressure even to slow down a very good offense like Seattle which has only scored 17 or less in seven out of its last 42 games. I don't see anything wrong with our secondary at all.

i think it seems like we haven't blitzed much because we haven't seen a lot of QB pressure/sacks/etc. but i think we have been blitzing plenty, only to see the blitzes get picked up and the offense beat it. the play that set up their first TD was a backfired big blitz, for example.

I know against Dallas, Williams said they did not blitz 70% of the time. I think each week will be different.
Williams did admit that Seattle's half time adjustments got the better of the D - he was very aware of the situation and blamed himself.

Really helps out our scoring and field position for the O, if our D can get some freaking sacks or turnovers, aren't we (-) in the T.O. battle?
Since we don't have a 1st rounder next year are we drafting or going for DT, DE, WR in the open market? Sort of off topic.
Nice to have Lavar at end scare the crap out of O-linemen. Super speeed

I may have a different opinion than 90% of the members of this site. Every single time Lavar played defensive end last year and in the preseason of this year, he has done absolutely nothing. He is a LB to me unless he proves otherwise. That might be a reason that Greg is sticking him in the back-up LB spot.

Have no fear, Moss will make it happen.

They did have a lot of success in the flats but we also made some good open field tackles. I remeber Rogers and Springs coming down from their zones to make sure tackles.

I'm also concerned about the pass defense and think its more that just a few injuries. Our rushing game has got to improve. Daniels is not getting it done and Wynn has never gotten it done. Where's Clemons? LaVar could be used to rush. So far, Holdman's a bust. We have genuine weakness that should be addressed and corrected now.
