Hello, Cj7...'90 Yj daily driver here.
I think Patches does indeed have that little devil on his shoulder, whispering in his ear. He's probably scared, a little bit. Time will tell if he responds to a challenge, or folds like a cheap suit. He trusted in Spurrier. Spurrier left town without telling Patches he was going. He IS a young man, and the trust that develops between Spurrier and his qb's borders on marriage, likely without the boinking.
Still, he was left hanging, holding the bag, twisting in the wind (insert your witty "abandonment analogy" here) and suddenly, the new coach goes out and get himself a mega-million dollar quarterback who has come out in the media and said, "I won't go somewhere with a quarterback controversy. I'm a starter." The little devil, Sexton, is whispering to Patches, "Did you hear that ? He's a
starter ! Gibbs must've told him he was a shoo-in. I can get you a deal with Miami five times better than what Brunell got. Look at you ! You're an Adonis ! You're the next Marino ! You are ALL that, and a bag of chips ! Watch me work, kid, and keep your mouth shut."
Something tells me that Joe might have spent more time wooing Brunell than he has placating Patches. Maybe Joe is prepping him to become a man, a leader, a Pro-Bowl caliber QB. I don't know, and I don't think anybody but Joe does. Joe works in mysterious ways, his wonders to perform...
"Sit back and watch the Redskins.
SOMETHING MAGICAL IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!"
