joe gibbs record in the salary cap era: 6-10
Boy, you're really grasping at straws now! In reality, Joe Gibbs record as the Head Coach of an NFL team is three Super Bowl victories, with four Super Bowl appearances. It is what it is, no matter how you try and twist it. To slice it up between salary cap era and non salaray cap era is an indication of your lack of respect for the game of football. How sad!!
my point was that spurrier should not solely shoulder the blame. the redskins who have one of the highest team salary's year after year have underachieved since snyder took over.
Give Joe Gibbs more than a season to change your opinion. You've given Steve Spurrier two years to form your opinion that he wasn't ALL to blame, the least you can do is give a Hall of Fame coach equal time to form your opinion. Re-visit this thread after the season and see if you still think that Gibbs' record in the salary cap era, or his offense "sucks" as you put it.
but since you mention it, the team was not better in EVERY facet of the game - the offense last season was terrible. i don't have the stats so i may be wrong but my guess is that spurrier's offense was no worse than gibbs.
ahhh, another one of those guys who has an I in their team. An offense is not what wins the games, a TEAM wins the game. That being said, last years Redskins were a better team than the year before. NO ONE, not even you, could argue to the contrary. If you for one minute think that the Redskins, who went 6-10 last year, were not a significant improvement from the year before, then you're even more out of touch with the NFL than I give you credit for.
Now, you don't have to tell me to read the thread, because I can assure you I did read it, even though logic should have told me not to. Contrary to your assertion, Steve Spurrier IS the reason for the Redskins fielding such poor teams in 2002 and 2003. He had two drafts, brought in his type of player, and after two years the team was still in decline. Even though the players are the ones who play the game, the coaching staff are responsible for how they play it. I disagree wity you, respectfully, that Steve Spurrier shouldn't shoulder all of the blame. Steve Spurrier, in my opinion, should shoulder ALL of the blame for the Redskins misfortunes for the two years he was HC. I mean, come one, who can argue that his system and style of coaching wasn't an abysmal failure? The responsiblity for how a team does in the Won/Loss category lies with the head coach. For the players to win, they have to buy into the Head Coaches philosophy, and the Redskins didn't buy into it. They can't be faulted for not buying into a flawed and inept system. Who in their right mind would buy into such a pathetic system? Just as Joe Gibbs will shoulder the blame for the Redskins record this year, so too has Steve Spurrier done for his time in D.C.
I shouldn't knock the loser too bad, cuz without his losing, cowardice type of personality, he wouldn't have quit and allowed a real coach to come back and turn this team around.
Thank you Steve!!
Sit back and watch the Redskins.
SOMETHING MAGICAL IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!
