Sleeper Pick: Jared Newberry

Personally, I like the pick of our first FB..Manuel White out of UCLA...he can help us when we get down to the goal line...

He is definitely good, but he runs 4.8 in the 40, he is better suited to play LB. Gibbs mentioned that he wants him to compete inside because he is so intelligent.

With that kind of speed he should play corner for the Steelers!

Let's keep Newberry where he belongs...at reserve LB until proven better than a current starter (or until injury forces the issue) and on special teams.

It's great to hit on a second day pick, but be realistic, if second day rookies are playing a big part of a team, injuries have robbed that team of much of a chance.

I realize the Patriots had some sucess with second day guys and UDFA's last year, but that's the exception rather than the rule.

McCune may make an impact on special teams, but he's not much of a linebacker yet and both White and Broughton won't make the team. Neither really stood out on special teams and keeping both seems unlikely given there similar postions.

My bet is that Broughton makes it because White seems to run a little upright to be a short yardage back and isn't much of a blocker.

I didn't mean they would all be starter but I think they will contribute. White I think is going to be converted into a TE or Hback. Mccune and Newberry will both be on special teams this year and Nemo will be the short yardage back.

I'll piggyback on that. We did well in the later rounds, I thought. Good, special teams depth and a couple of guys who can move the line when they need to. We lack that with Portis and one or both of these guys will fit the bill.
