Sleeper Pick: Jared Newberry

Post by Skinsfan55 »

I really think this guy could be a stud, he's played at lighter than 230 before and I think he could be an excellent SS if we moved him... assuming that Bowen can't come back to form Newberry and Taylor would be a frightening combo!

Personally, I like the pick of our first FB..Manuel White out of UCLA...he can help us when we get down to the goal line...

"This fifth-year senior is an outstanding all-around back who played a major role in UCLA's offensive success in 2004. Called by the coaching staff, "the heart and soul of the Bruin offense," White was elected as a team captain by his teammates. He possesses the ability to play either tailback or fullback in a two-back offense and also functions well as a single back.

White has the ability to break tackles, the size and strength to get the tough inside yards and the speed to get around the corner and down the sideline. He also catches the ball well and has improved his blocking skills."

I like this pick...

I like all the later round picks. Mccune, Newberry, Broughton, and White will all be big parts of our team.

He is definitely good, but he runs 4.8 in the 40, he is better suited to play LB. Gibbs mentioned that he wants him to compete inside because he is so intelligent.

SS mighe be a stretch.
SPIT HAPPENS!!

With that kind of speed he should play corner for the Steelers!

Let's keep Newberry where he belongs...at reserve LB until proven better than a current starter (or until injury forces the issue) and on special teams.

It's great to hit on a second day pick, but be realistic, if second day rookies are playing a big part of a team, injuries have robbed that team of much of a chance.

I realize the Patriots had some sucess with second day guys and UDFA's last year, but that's the exception rather than the rule.

McCune may make an impact on special teams, but he's not much of a linebacker yet and both White and Broughton won't make the team. Neither really stood out on special teams and keeping both seems unlikely given there similar postions.

My bet is that Broughton makes it because White seems to run a little upright to be a short yardage back and isn't much of a blocker.
This space reserved for BTP......If he ever wins it.

I didn't mean they would all be starter but I think they will contribute. White I think is going to be converted into a TE or Hback. Mccune and Newberry will both be on special teams this year and Nemo will be the short yardage back.

I'll piggyback on that. We did well in the later rounds, I thought. Good, special teams depth and a couple of guys who can move the line when they need to. We lack that with Portis and one or both of these guys will fit the bill.

hate to burst your bubble skinsfan55 but if we wanted a safety we would have drafted or signed Ernest Shazor. No way we brought Newberry here to be a safety

Experience. There is no substitute for it. TC is right.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!
