Artrell Hawkins??
http://www.panthers.com/news/newsroomNe ... p?id=17592
I think the Skins should take a look at this guy. Hawkins is is a good player with a lot of starting experience. I know we have a gap at the CB position but with Springs,Hawkins,Harris, and Wilds I think we would be set. I go to high school with Hawkins' brother and have met Atrell a few times. He's a real nice guy , would fit the "Gibbs" player stereotype, and really wouldn't be too expensive.
What do you think????

You know you're the only person recommending him and you go to H.S. with his brother and know him. I'm not saying we shouldn't sign him, but convince me other than the reasoning that you know the guy and his brother. You aren't exactly an "unbiased opinion" on Hawkins, you know what I mean?

The going phrase for the off-season "If he will come cheap, I say why not." LOL I think we'll be saying that to just about everyone these days and we will grow tired of it soon enough, but hey if they come cheap why not

Jansen on his broken thumbs:
"It’s limited me in some ways but has been beneficial in others. It’s like I have a couple of clubs on my hands. I just have to hit people with them."

FYI - from Clayton on ESPN.com
Clayton's analysis: No surprise from the Carolina list of cuts. Artrell Hawkins was released the day before the Panthers signed Seahawks cornerback Ken Lucas. That should have been a tipoff that something was happening. Lucas and Chris Gamble are the starters and Ricky Manning Jr. is the nickel, leaving no spot for Hawkins, whose release saves the Panthers $1 million. They released quarterback Rodney Peete and guard Doug Brzeninski for a combined savings of $2.5 million. Throw in wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad and they've saved more than $15 million of cap room, but the Panthers were hurt by Muhammad's signing with the Bears. They offered close to what the Bears offered.
End quote..
I personally say $1 million is fantastic price for a 6-year veteran CB. Let's grab him unless someone from Carolina can point out how bad he is. Carolina's D has been good for a few years now...

I'll pass on this guy.
I don't think we need to draft a CB with our 1st pick, let alone pick one up with our lack of funds.
We need to use the guys we have on board and pick a good prospect later in the draft. We have bigger needs/concerns on our teams before CB.

I disagree, i think our biggest need is corner. I think our recievers are in a better condition than the cornerback spot. We have patten moss and thrash, who had a great end of the season, and filled in nice in the coles role (WR screens and such). I would like to see us pick up a WR but that can happen next year. Right now we need to stay with what's strong and that's our defense. Defense kept us in a lot of games last year when the offense wasn't doing squat. I think we have to sure up that other corner spot, because having a good corner makes blitzing more effective. If the qb drops back and his WR is covered for the first 5 seconds, by the sixth , he's being sacked by one of the 7 guys up front. Hawkins sounds like a good pick up, and Andre Dyson is still out there. I think these guys would be money better spent than to pick up Courtney Brown

CB is a need, but I wouldn't moreso than a DE. I believe that a good pass rush is critical to the success of a CB. We didn't have a good pass rush with only our front four last season.

I want to wait until the June cuts to see who shakes loose before we blow any money on the secondary.
If the season started tomorrow, I could see going after this guy, if only for depth. It doesn't, though.
If John Fox (who is a defensive-minded guy, by all accounts) saw no useful purpose in keeping this guy, why should we ?

Unfortunately, there are no defensive ends in the draft of value at the #9 position. We could pick up an Adam "Pac Man" Jones or an Antrell Rolle to join Springs, Harris, Wilds and company with that pick. We can get a pash-rusher in the third round. Plus, I anticipate we'll be receiving an extra pick or two soon with the pending Gardner trade.

That is something Ive been thinking about. If we can pick up C Brown then that'll change some things. I think Pacman and the others are good corners, but for a 1st round pick, i want the next d. green. none of these guys strike me as playmakers. thats just my opinion, i dont kno much about them so my opinion isn't weighted.
this is a weird draft for us.

I don't know about that. It's only weird if we draft like, a kicker in the first round.

Everything else will fill a void. We could always use an extra whatever. Gibbs will evaluate who is still around when we pick, and choose accordingly.
Hopefully, not another early Desmond Howard.
