Trevor Price Available

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Trevor Price Available

Post by hatsOFF2gibbs »

THE NEWS

Four-time Pro Bowl defensive end Trevor Pryce is on the trading block in Denver. "This is not Trevor's doing," Pryce's agent, Peter Schaffer, told the Denver Post. "He did not ask for this. The Broncos came to us, and this is what they want to do, and I need to help find the best place for Trevor." Pryce's $9.1 million cap number for 2005 is only part of the reason the Broncos are shopping him; they also intend to switch to a 3-4 alignment, and Pryce is best suited for a 4-3.

OUR VIEW

Pryce was limited to two games in 2004 because of back problems, but he is expected to be healthy following surgery. The Broncos are looking for draft picks in exchange for Pryce and would use some of the cap money saved by his departure to keep defensive end Reggie Hayward, who led the team with 10.5 sacks last season.

How is this guy? 29!!! He's made multiple Pro Bowls! I don't know anything about this dude, but he doesn't look too bad. I think I'm liking this free-agency acquisition possibility! That's IF he or Chump's team doesn't ask for WAY too much!

One small thing....he did have a back injury but is supposed to be fine after surgery.

Pryce is 29.....Beginning in 1999, the former Clemson star, a first-round pick in 1997, played in four consecutive Pro Bowl games. From 1998-2003, Pryce appeared in 95 of a possible 96 games and started 94 of them. Following the first game of the '04 season, he underwent back surgery. He returned in time for the regular-season finale but did not dress for the team's wild-card playoff loss at Indianapolis. He finished the season with two tackles.

Pryce began his NFL career as a defensive tackle, moved to end in 2002 and quickly assimilated the nuances of the outside position.

For his career, Pryce has 284 tackles, 60 sacks and eight forced fumbles. In 1999-2000, he posted 25 sacks, one of the best two-season totals in the past 10 years for a tackle.

So, are y'all saying the "Pryce" is right ? I'm not sure if he's the answer, but he sure goes after the qb, and that might be an area that we could use just a little tweaking. Not that I want to drastically alter our defense. We have enough issues on the other side of the ball without getting all stupid with money on D.

I am not sold on him at all. I just posted the stats. He is no long term solution. He is maybe a one or two season patch.

The price might be too high. But you never know. Mr. Smoot might be interested to join one of his mentors in Denver.

Here is the key word " Back Problems" thats all we need is some more players that can't play. We need to build thru the draft, keep our picks, he wants big money, we don't need him.

According to a report in The Denver Post, the Broncos are shopping four-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Trevor Pryce.

They have spoken to the Dolphins among many teams. Denver is seeking a second- or third-round pick in exchange for Pryce.

We don't have a 2nd and I don't know if I'd give it up or not.
A third round pick I'd have to think about but wouldn't pull the trigger until sometime after Free Agency starts

Back problems.
"I was on the sideline and guys were talking about the score, and then it hit me -- we won by 21. I came in the locker room and I yelled it out, and immediately I just kind of broke down in tears. Because I miss Sean, you know."

1. $9.1 million cap number for 2005
2. Missed most of last season due to Back problems
3. He isn't a good fit for the 3-4 defense that Denver is switching to

PRYCE SUITORS LINING UP

Word out of Denver is that up to eight teams have expressed serious interest in making a trade for Broncos defensive lineman Trevor Pryce, including the Vikings, Seahawks, Cowboys, and Raiders.

News reports from the past week suggested that the Broncos will accept a third-round pick for Pryce. With so many teams interested, however, Denver would be wise to jack up the price a bit.

And of the interested teams, the most intriguing possibility is the Vikings. With a change in ownership looming and with current owner Red McCombs likely unwilling to fork over a bunch of his own money in signing bonuses, Pryce would the perfect offseason acquisition to bolster a sagging defense, since he requires no signing bonus of any kind.

Assuming Pryce stays on the outside, he'd supplant Kenny Mixon. If, however, the Vikings would move him to the inside, Pryce and Pro Bowler Kevin Williams could form a potentially dominant interior tandem, the likes of which the Vikings haven't seen since Henry Thomas and Keith Millard were clogging the middle of the line.

In Dallas, Pryce would enable the team to cut ties with Marcellus Wiley, a free-agent acquisition from a year ago who was very disappointing in his first season with the Cowboys.

Pryce, Broncos stick together

By Bill Williamson
Denver Post Staff Writer

In a remarkable turnaround, the two-month Trevor Pryce saga ended Tuesday with the four-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman staying in Denver.

After a few days of negotiations, the Broncos and Pryce's agent, Peter Schaffer, finalized a new contract that will keep Pryce with the Broncos and give the team more than $3 million in salary cap room. The deal is official, but terms were not disclosed.

Pryce, who had appeared to be on his way out of town via trade or release, has three years remaining on his contract. Before the restructuring, Pryce had a salary cap number of $9,166,000. In April 2001, Pryce signed a seven-year, $60 million contract, including an $11 million signing bonus.

Denver general manager Ted Sundquist said Tuesday that last week's meeting between Pryce and Broncos coach Mike Shanahan was the difference- maker in the agreement.
