Jerry Rice Seattle Bound

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Jerry Rice Seattle Bound

Post by 1niksder »

Jerry Rice could be headed north to reunite with Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren for a 2005 fourth or fifth round draft choice. The disgruntled receiver asked for a trade last week, and Holmgren confirmed Monday the Seahawks were looking into ways to acquire him from the Oakland Raiders. When Rice was released by the San Francisco 49ers four years ago, Rice visited Holmgren at Seattle's headquarters. The 42-year-old Rice wants to play for a team that will give him a greater role. He has gone without a catch three times this season, including in Sunday's 31-3 loss to Denver, but still believes he can be plenty productive. The NFL's career leader in catches and touchdowns and the only receiver to ever play after age 40, Rice has only five receptions for 67 yards and no touchdowns this year. Last season, he led the Raiders in catches (63) and yards receiving (869).Holmgren was Rice's offensive coordinator from 1989-1991 with the San Francisco 49ers, and Holmgren was the Niners' quarterbacks coach starting in Rice's second season with the team in 1986.

It's a Done deal...

Rice traded to Seahawks for 7th-round pick

A living legend's next chapter will be in Seattle. FOXSports.com has learned that the Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks have agreed to a trade for Jerry Rice, the greatest receiver in football history.

Sources said the deal was for a conditional seventh-round pick. The pick is based on certain playing time incentives for the 42-year-old Rice, who has recently complained about his lack of action in the Raiders offense.

The NFL's career leader in catches and touchdowns and the only receiver to ever play after age 40, Rice has only five receptions for 67 yards and no touchdowns this year. Last season, he led the Raiders in catches (63) and yards receiving (869).

Trading for Rice became an issue for Seattle within the past couple of weeks after team officials learned that receiver Koren Robinson could be suspended. Robinson reportedly violated the league substance abuse policy.

Rice reunites with coach Mike Holmgren, who was Rice's offensive coordinator from 1989-1991 with the San Francisco 49ers. Holmgren was also the Niners' quarterbacks coach in Rice's second season with the team in 1986.

It's a sad way to approach the end of his career. The GREATEST receiver of all time being traded for just a SEVENTH round pick.

Seattle got the better end of the deal. It will be very weird to see him in a Seahawks uniform.

I hope he goes to Seattle and kicks tail. I knew Norv would fail with the Faiders. They're terrible.
God bless our troops and Joe Gibbs.
We'll miss you, Joe.

I actually like this trade, but I think that Seattle got the better end of the deal. Jerry Rice may be old, but he is still capable of doing things. He definitely fits in with Holmgren. I like him in a Seahawks jersey. It is great that Largent gave Rice his blessing to wear his number. Besides the Seahawks getting Rice, I like seeing what the Seahawks are doing as far as playing goes.
