Reality Check

Post by K19 »

Just my take on the game as a whole, hopefully unbiased and honest, agree or disagree feel free to throw your hat into the ring.

Numbers Lie
The 'Skins didn’t play like the number one rated defense in the league nor did the 'Boys play like the number one rated offense. Who has either team played? Last I checked Tampa Bay and the Giants weren’t offensive juggernauts capable of huge outings and Minnesota and Cleveland aren’t exactly going down as the greatest defensive teams in history

Great teams overcome bad situations
The officiating stunk all the way around. The missed Portis call on 3rd down kept a drive alive and led to points for the 'Skins. Poor calls lead to 'Boys points. Yes I said it, even Terry Glenn said it...that touchdown was a blown call. Great teams overcome bad officiating. Unless the official’s blow every call a good team can put up enough points, hold their opponents, and overcome a few bad calls. Neither team fits that category.

Poor decisions can and will cost you a game
Poor decisions and clock management hurt both teams. The fore mentioned blown call on Portis deserved a challenge that never came while Challenges that never should have been made were plentiful. A lack of clock management and wasted timeouts came back to bite the ‘Skins in the end. One saved time out and the game goes into overtime with a HUGE momentum swing. The 'Boys lucked out there

Both teams will get better
The "Skins are learning a new system on both sides of the ball. The 'Boys are in year 2 of a new system. The future of both teams sat the bench while the old gunslingers shot it out on the field. Injuries on both sides of the field hurt, but that’s part of the game. Injuries happen to everyone in the league, poor excuse if anyone wants to try and use that one.

The Rivalry is back
Regardless of the past scores it seems to me the rivalry is back between the 'Boys and 'Skins. I'm hoping the series of the last 7 years are gone. Hard to make things a rivalry when your outscored 343 to 215 since 97. The game was close enough to insure that fact. I look forward to closer more competitive game as both teams mature. Downside is here comes the bandwagon, everyone hop on

The season is not over for either team
Both teams needed the win to stay out of the basement, only one could actually get it. Regardless of what people seem to think being the best team on the field doesnt mean alot, the team that puts up the most points always wins. I'm sure people are as "up in arms" in DC over a loss as they are in Dallas over an "ugly" win. With 3 games down and 13 to go there's room for improvement on both sides of the field. Having your teams led by 2 of the greatest to coach the game leads to high expectations. Be cautious not to set the bar to high, neither team has shown much as of yet.

All that being said feel free to agree or disagree. I am just glad I got power back on after Jeanne in time to watch the game and I'm really looking forward to the rematch.

Well Put. I can't deny anything that you have said. As for the penalties, the Skins suffered a few bad calls in Game One also but went on to win. This time they couldn't pull it off. What upsets me though is the Fed Ex refs. They constantly make bad calls against the Skins. I don't know if they just despise Dan Snyder or what. Perhaps that is just a case of an overly emotional spectator being overly sensitive to the refs every call. But it seems to me that the skins refs seem to have it out for them.

Thanks for your post, it helped me put something in perspective. "Gibbs Version 2.0" is 0-1 against the boys, with a chance to even the score in Dallas come December. All things are made new, and, yes, a true rivalry is back.
Back and better than ever!

good post k19. I've been a bit harsh in some of my posts regarding the boys and this game, but just chalk it up to some other boys fans pissing me off with stupid statements. I don't like the cowboys, that's just my nature as a B&G fan, but I always respect all true football fans who are realistic about their teams. It's usually the fly by night fans who make dumb comments and they really get under my skin. You seem to be a true fan of the boys and probably football in general, and I respect you for that. Good luck in game 2, your gonna need it ;-)

I agree with the statement that "good teams find a way to win despite bad calls." but I disagree that the Cowboys are a team that did that.

If the Redskins had won, I think you could say they were a good enough team to overcome bad officating, but the point differential between the really bad calls against the 'Skins and the mildly bad call (that could've been challenged) that went against the 'Boys is too big to ignore in this situation.

I propose a companion to the above statement: "Even bad teams can eek out a win when they benefit from bad officiating."

C'mon cvillehog put some objective effort into it. Read the post closely, take off the blinders, and don't sound like such a homer :o

The last sentence of the paragraph says
a good team can put up enough points, hold their opponents, and overcome a few bad calls. Neither team fits that category.
