1-year, $800,000 (here's hoping we have dibs on him for next year if it pans out)

Whoooo!

Now hopefully he can stay out of trouble and get back to even a frction of he force that he once was.

I have to just add a personal note here... while I have no idea whether or not Russell is guilty of all, any or none of the things he has been accused of... I saw him on the Ben Stein show a couple of years back, and he was just a nice, quiet guy.

So who knows? Maybe he will work out fine.

You know, Boss--the weird thing is, something like that (being on Ben Stein's money) makes me feel better about him. Here's hoping it all works out!

He was a force to be reckoned with before too... so hopefully he can use this time to 'prove his worth' to the rest of he NFL for next year's contract negotiations.

I can hoestly say that not only was he ON the Ben Stein show, he was honestly one of the most unassuming, gentle bear type players that I ever saw on the show.

so if he kicks ass this season, do we lose him like we did Gardner last off-season? I know that's speculative, but just wanted to know your thoughts.
God bless our troops and Joe Gibbs.

I'd say that with the cap issues we're gonna have to contend with (to keep champ, Lavar etc)... there won't be much more $$$$ around, so we'll have to wait and see.

HOWEVER... ya think the Redskins braintrust isn't wishing they'd upped a little more to Gardener? Still... he got overpaid... can't much blame the FO on Gardener... management behaved responsibly and there's nothing wrong with that.

Lets hope he takes this as a new opportunity to start over. He is only 27 and hopefully he figured out that he needs to prove that he belongs in the league instead of behind bars. I heard he was a smart guy that just hung around a bad crowd. Only time will tell.

As I've said many times...I absolutely hated to see Gardner go...but you're right the FO acted responsibly and he was overpaid by Denver. It'll be interesting to see what happens for the remainder of the season and the upcoming offseason and the handling of the cap room or lack there off....regardless of how we perform on the field....we can only get better...let's hope.

God, from my heart to the D-line, I hope this dude works out.

Can anyone assess how long it will take him to get into shape after being out of the league for so long?
HAIL GIBBS' FROM SO CAL. MAY HE BRING THE TOUGHNESS AND PROFESSIONALISM THAT WE HAVE BEEN LACKING!!

I hope he works out.

Hopefully we won't let him go after a great year to sign two more florida WR's.

He's reportedly gonna play 10-15 snaps against Dallas, so apparently... the team think in shape or out of shape... he's an improvement.

It'll take at least 3 games to get into anything close to decent game shape though... probably more.

Still... better prospectus than we had yesterday :-)

This is great news! I like Russell's comments after signing....very humble and wants to fit in and appreciates the opportunity he's been given....now let's see him contribute!
