For any of my fellow gaming fans, I thought that you'd be interested in the new design for our beloved PS2.

That's cool. I have a PS2 and Gamecube. The Gamecube is really small. That new PS2 will save a lot of space.

I can't get to IGN from here, and from wut I read one some other forums its not clear. I think they were vague and said October. A lot of people dont think its this Oct. but next Oct. and that it's supposed to steal some thunder from the Xbox2 that is rumoured to be released before the PS3.

So basically, no one knows...

I really love the design of this Ps2 version 2, and the original. Sony did a great job of making the console blend in perfectly with existing entertainment systems. My Xbox sticks out like a sore thumb amongst my DVD player, receiver and the such. When Im using my PS2 I'm not worried about its physical appearance, but it is nice to have a nice looking entertainment system.

Yeah, it will be great...but the the X-box 2 will blow it out of the water...trust me. I'm a huge fan of the PS, but I have to say Sony is going to be going down hill REAL fast as soon as the X-box 2 comes out.

Who do you think that Sony will go down hill fast? There has been nothing to even indicate that.

Sony still has the best exclusive titles, though that number has dropped a bit.

Sony has over 60% of the market share for consoles.

Its a namebrand name, the casual consumer will usually stick to the tried and true.

The Xbox has/had a weak presecence in Japan and has not improved that much.

Sega showed that launching 1st doesn't nearly indicate success. MS is supposed to Launch 1st.

PS2 Exclusives.

Metal Gear (PC being the exception) Xbox fans got a bad port of a PS2 exclusive a year or so afterwards. Gamecube got a remake of the original Metal Gear for the PS1. Sony has gotten the latest and greatest from that franchise.

Grand Theft Auto Sony gets these games 1st. Again, Xbox got a port of this game 2 years later with no major additions other than the textures having a higher resolution.

Grand Turismo All of the racing sim games for Xbox have failed in comparision. Goes to show that artistic detail beats out throwing polygons at the screen.

Look at the games that are multi-system. I'll name Splinter Cell, and Madden for example. They have been built with the PS2 in mind at 1st. Many Xbox reviews complain of developers not taking grasp of the Boxs potential. They get ports.

The Xbox is a great console, I own one and haven't really touched my PS2. To blindly say that it'll dethrown the PS2 with no reasoning or any information on the next Gen systems is crazy.

I could have sworn the Xbox fans spelled doom for the PS2 when it was released, now look at whos fighting for the measely 30% of market share that Sony has for left overs.

It usually takes MS a couple of tries before they get something right.

I found this stats off of the gaming-age website. These figures are the market share in the console industry.

Sony MS Nin
72 million vs 15.5 vs 14.5 does not give Microsoft 30%.

Even in the US, it's 24.5M vs 9.5 vs 7.8, which only give M$ less than 23%. I guess if you go buy the most recent monthly NPD totals, you could get 30%, but that's about it.

This doesn't mean that Sony is better. I just posted it to backup some claims that I made earlier in regards to why Sony gets more of the AAA games and everyone else gets a simple port that doesn't take advantage of their system strengths. That is Sony's saving grace.
