Jury arrives w/ Gardner Verdict

Post by Montana Redskin »

Guilty of alligator arms and case of the serious droppsies...

I actually defended this guy a few months back, in that I figured he, %wise, didn't drop that many but that they were at the worst times in games, like 3rd downs, come from behind drives, etc...

But today, today....and last week, I have arrived at my verdict that this guy is killing this team. Sure he made that 50 yd catch which was an incredible catch, but for every 1 there's 2 drops? And then, to top it off, he drops the go ahead (I think it was after the Portis TD) TD 2 plays later?? Then Ramsey throws the garbage pic.... Get McCants, Thrash, Jacobs, anyone in there that catches consistently???

The Portis coughs don't have me worried other than I'm not pleased with the holes being created for him.

And Ramsey..I'm not even going there. 2 of those pics were absolutely HORRIBLE!!!??? Horrible...We had this game, it was wrapped up like a nice Christmas present and personally I rest that on Ramsey not being able to put together the drives necessary to seal it off. Sure 7 turnovers don't help, but winners, when given only a 6 pt deficit get it done. I think Brunell would have sealed it off even though he's not exactly lighting it up.

Art Monk

Post by Redskin in Canada »

I propose to bring Art Monk back and out of retirement. I know that this move would affect his chances to go in the HOF in a few years but he is at least a wide receiver that, even at his age, would know how to catch and hold on to the football.

I am serious

You can't crucify Gardner without including Coles in there as well. Gardner played terrible today, but so did all of the skill players on our offense...

Coles had a great game. He did drop the one ball on the last drive, but other than that he was solid. The refs were serious homers in that game, giving the G-spots all the breaks from the Portis taunting penalty, to not calling the time-out with 10 seconds left in the 1st half (letting the clock tick down to 5) so we were forced to try the FG instead of one play into the endzone, to the hold on Coles on Ramsey's 2nd INT. There were many other bad calls, but recounting them now is just making me angry. I'm not defending the way we played, but we certainly didn't have any help from the zebras.

Our whole offense played very poorly. The majority of Gardners drops are just mental; he can catch.... Dont worry, the drops will reduce with time. Anyone who can catch that 50 yard ball he did can certainly catch. Coles also dropped a CRUCIAL catch at the end, and again, that was just mental. I'm still a big fan of Rod and I'm still behind him

No offense, but this "mental" thing with Rod is now on what, Year 4? Coles had maybe 1 drop, but he did have 9 catches for 100+ yds and is heads and shoulders better than Gardner. I say put Thrash in for Gardner, he won't drop em' when they count.

Yeah, I think Coles had a great game, except for that drop on the final drive. That porved to be a killer. But Gardner sucked all day. He only made 2 catches besides the long bomb. I think the TD drop may have been intended for Coles and Gardner just broke it up.

This is for anyone who makes an excuse for Gardner.

Get of the freaking bandwagon. Get off, I swear if you dont I will push you off! He sucks. He doesn't deserve to play on this team. He has DONE NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT DROP PASSES!!!!!!

He was offsides!
He had 2 penalties!!!
He dropped the game winning TD!
HE DROPPED 100000 PASSES!!

He's not a rookie, he's not new!!! Its not the offense!!
Its not Gibbs! Its not Ramsey! The ball wasn't wet.

HE CAN'T CATCH!!! Why is he even on the field?!!?!?!?!?!??!

Even Spurrier benched Gardner for a stretch last year. I wonder how patient Coach Gibbs will be with Rod. It's not like we have no depth at receiver, if giving some playing time to Jacobs or McCants will help wake Rod up I'm all for it.

He's on the field because he is capable of making 50-yard highlight catches like he did today. He's on the field because he is big and strong, and when he gets the ball he's tough to bring down.

But he drops entirely too many passes. You're right. Everyone is right. All I'm saying is that everyone played like crap today. The only offensive player who shouldn't be embarressed with the way he played is Chris Cooley. Gardner alone is not the reason we lost today...

Many of you have already expressed my frustration with Rod Gardner. It is well known that the guy can't even catch a cold in Alaska with no clothes on, soaking wet. My friends and I call him "fifty", as in 50/50. Well, that of course is too generous. The guy just is not a starting NFL wide receiver.

I have tried to temper my criticism of Rod, since I understand that everyone has bad plays, but look no further than the first play against Tampa last week. A wide receiver screen was called, and what did he do, drop the pass. Not only did he make critical drops today, but he had THREE, 3, TRES illegal motions, or illegal formation calls against him today. The drops are one thing, but the formation penalties are quite another.

Somehow, somewhere, space must be made for Darnerien McCants on the active roster. The guy presents a big target, can catch the ball in traffic, and is also good around the goal line.

Finally, I know Portis had a rough day today, but I am far less critical of him, since I saw him out there making key blocks, trying to contribute to the team in other ways than when the ball was in his hands.

Truly finally, the defense has to be commended for its play. They kept us in the game all day. Other than that one play when Bowen got caught in coverage, I thought that once again Gregg Williams called an excellent defensive game.

I was about to propose that the Redskins activate Sonny, but I think Monk is a better idea.

With Gardner and the drops, sure, it might be a mental thing, but is it an unwillingness to focus, or an inability to focus under pressure?

Coles has nothing to be embarassed about either. He had 9 catches for 100 yards. He did drop that one on the last drive, but overall he had a really nice day. I still don't understand why we didn't throw to Cooley more, though. We could have ridden his big back all day long.

His drop was no less excusable than any of Gardner's. If you think he's proud of the way he played today, I would have to disagree. But that's not really the point. The point is, everyone played poorly. If McCants had been on the field instead of Gardner, I still think we lose the game...

Rod has played like crap for the past 3 seasons...

Coles dropped that one pass that I can remeber. Yea it was significant, BUT he is on NO WAY in this world COMPARABLE to Rod Gardner.

Yes Rod Gardner Did not make a lot of the easier catches.. those seem to be the ones he always drops. It is very weird.
But my only question is lets say we do trade him.. or not re-sign him. Lets say happens and he beginsto live up to his potential. How many of you would be complaning that we traded him. Yes he makes way to many mistakes on the easy catches... however everyone here agrees that the coaching now is better than in previous years. I think we should let Gibbs/bugle/brough(sp?)/hixon decide

Im sorry but I'll never be a fan of his. If he's a probowler for the rest of his life, I'll just have a distaste for him.

I can't understand how he has stuck around this long.

At your jobs what happens when you don't perform well, repeatedly. You get fired. Same thing here.

We can't wait around for Gardner to learn how to catch. Thats not Gibbs job, Rods father is at fault! ROTFALMAO Thats who I blame!
