Mark Brunell

Post by dnpmakkah »

Just a thought...do you guys/gals think that Gibbs either knew that Brunell was going to win the starting job or had pre-determined the out come by giving him the larger contract. I only say this because of the fact that with the quaterbacks rotating starting shifts in the preseason like they have been and Gibbs naming Brunnell his starter that gives Brunnell another preseason week with the starters before game one as compared to if the rotation went Ramsey first then Brunell?

I know Gibbs is the kind of coach that would put in the player that best could help the team win and not the one who makes the most money, but maybe he knew Brunell was going to win the job thus setting the rotation like it is.

I think Gibbs knew that Ramsey wasn't ready, or at least the possibility was there. I think Brunell was brought in with thoughts of being the starter but Gibbs always was going to leave it open. If Ramsey would have stepped his game up instead of staying stagnant he would be the starter. Brunell said it himself that its hard to develop any relationship with the receivers because of the rotation. Gibbs would never have set Brunell back like that IF Ramsey didn't have a shot at winning.

I think Gibbs had a plan coming in but was willing to be pleasently surprised if P-Ram had beat out Mark. I beleive him when he said that it was a open battle for the spot. I glad he named his starter now for the reasons you mentioned but if Ramsey had won the job I think JG would have done the same. If he had predetermined that he definatly wanted Brunell as his starter I think he would have named him the starter weeks ago

I don't think the contract Brunell got has anything to do with it. They simply paid him what they thought it would take to make him a Redskin. Gibbs knows you need a solid backup, and whoever didn't win the starting role would be just that. I think he may have given the edge to Brunell because of his experience level, and that is why he started the first pre-season game. Joe's offense is not that easy to pick up for a guy with Ramsey's limited experience. If Brunell were to go down, Joe would modify the playbook to match Ramsey's level of preparedness.
