Stacey Mack???
http://www.washtimes.com/sports/2004083 ... -9267r.htm
"Note — Washington worked out running back Stacey Mack, who started five games for the Houston Texans last season. Mack's best year came in 2001 with the Jacksonville Jaguars, when he started 11 games and rushed for 877 yards. No signing was imminent, and the Redskins already have a crowded backfield with Ladell Betts, Rock Cartwright, Sultan McCullough and John Simon vying for two roster spots."
I'm a bit confused... aren't we already conscerned over which promising back we are going to have to cut? Mack obviously didnt have enough to cut it with the Texans (let alone any other team since he hasn't been signed). I thought he was goign to do great coming into last season, but it doesn't seem like RB is a position of need, particulrly compaired to D line. Then again, Gibbs knows best. Am I overconfident in Betts, Rock, whoever else we keep on to back-up Portis?

The News
The Redskins gave free agent running back Stacey Mack a tryout on Sunday, the Washington Times reported. No signing is imminent.
Our View
The Redskins already have four running backs - Ladell Betts, Rock Cartwright, Sultan McCullough, and John Simon - fighting for two roster spots, and Joe Gibbs is either just curious or is really unhappy with that group of backups. Clinton Portis' job is not in jeopardy, but his fantasy owners will want to make sure they know who his handcuff is just in case.
very odd...i am a fan of Ladell, hope Gibbs has patience with him.
Could the Skins be setting up a trade? They alreadt tried to trade Kevin Mitchell and the punter Lemke the other day.

I think about it this way
Stacy Mack=Gerald Riggs (in terms of their roles not abilities)
Although Gerlad Riggs was a great all around back the skins used him primarily as a short yardage/goal line back in 1991 (heavy jumbo comes to mind) maybe thats what coach Gibbs is thinking about. Im afraid this may not bode well for Rock.

I agree 666, and I think we are well off with what we have instore all ready. Although it is a bit shady seeing that he is having a tryout with us.
I have travelled the net and found the Redskins promise land. This is, by far, the best site out there for Redskins/NFL News, Notes, Opinions, and so much more.

there might be roster space if we move betts... i think this is either a sign that we are trying to make deals or at the least scare betts (motivation tool)....
portis is great but he hasn't played a whole season b/c of minor injuries... we need some depth... and betts has never been the cal ripken of running backs....
we are going to dump more wr's and keep rb's and tight ends...
See right now I'm on lettuce... Pretty soon I'll be on fries... After that.. The grill... And after that... Comes Assistant. Manager.... and That's When the Big Bucks roll in!
