Fans can't handle the rain?

Post by oafusp »

The empty stadium on Saturday was another sign that most of the real Redskin fans stay at home while "2nd tier" fans go to the games.

Sure, 20,000 fans can sit the 100 degree humidity for 4 hours to watch PRACTICE, but when it comes to some ticket holders they would not be caught dead in the rain...i mean drizzle??? I'd take rain over 100 degrees any day.

Just wanted to say it was a really great crowd to welcome back Gibbs. Can't wait till it snows.

Up 'til game time all the media said was that the rain was going to come down heavy. My drive to the game was actually quite hairy - I hydroplaned twice, couldn't see anything but made it. Not until almost game time did things look brighter. I actually know a couple people who heard on the radio that it was cancelled so one group didn't go and another group got there at half time after realizing the game was on. I normally don't make excuses, but this time I am. I go in any weather and most fans do. Anyways, I think it's more than what you saw on TV for this game. If it was regular season and the weather was crappy, you wouldn't have seen empty seats (Plus, there were as many fans there as most stadium's can hold!).

Anyways, this time, I'll defend the fans, especially since it was a preseason game and I was there.

I don't think it is Fake fans. I have 6 season tickets and give my preseason tickets to people who can't make it to the games during the regular season. I haven't missed a home game in 12 years but to me Preseason games are nothing more then exhibitions. I am amazed the NFL can get away with charging full price for games that are clearly not NFL quality games. I don't agree that showing up to watch a bunch of players that won't make the team play makes you a true fan.

I agree with you 444. I think teams should offer reduced ticket prices for preseason games....but don't hold your breath on that one!

Yea, calling people fake is a bit much under Saturdays circumstances. It was supposed to rain like crazy and many people most likely didn't feel safe driving in those conditions. If they knew it was going to be halfway decent I know they would have came. I drove to beltsville MD to watch the game over my grandfathers house. The rain doesn't bother me, I was doing 80mph, loL. Yea, Im young and crazy and Subaru AWD IS THE TRUTH!

I have been very sick since August 4 and was willing to go and sit for hours in a predicted hurricane to watch my skins...don't tell me about fake fans. Luckily Charley stayed away and we only got wet right before the game started.

Yeah, you were there...and sick...100% true fan.
I am saying that there are a lot of people that dont realize the importance of home field advantage. Whether it is the pre-season or playoffs, the players feed off of it.

"It's raining! I don't want to get my Burberry wet!"

I just hope the turnout is better at the next game, rain or shine. I thought the stadium was going to be packed...in the rain....like Lambeau Field was last night.

I drove up from Charlottesville to Stafford on Friday. Then, on Saturday, I picked my brother up in Dale City and drove up to my sister's in MD to pick up the tickets from her house. It took almost 3 hours to make the trip because someone in an SUV managed to get his vehicle to stradle the dividing wall between the inner and outerloop at Rt. 1 in Alexandria.

But! I still made it to the game! Of course, it's probably the only game I will get to go to this year...

You rock! I wish some people that live in the area could have done the same.

I edited the subject to avoid accusing someone of being fake for not showing up to Gibbs first home game back.

I told you we were no longer the "best fans in the NFL"!!! HA HA!

I agree it sucks that attendance was so low but
for preseason, I think there are lots of legit excuses.

I know lots of people who take their young children to the pre-season games since they don't mean squat and they can leave when
ever the kids get restless. I know many who bagged the game due to the weather forecast. The last thing you want is a sick kid on your hands for a week just to go to some meaningless pre-season game.

I know older folks who also don't go when there is bad weather. (Remember George Allen! -I love the skins but I'm not sure they are worth dying over!)

It's near impossible to get rid of pre-season, especially at the last minute.

Here is an interesting item-

The *&^$$%# Cowboys charge you for a pre-season game when you buy a single regular season game! Real nice.

Again, I know people who thought it was cancelled. I know other people who have kids and listened to the news all day and made the decision not to go (these same people would NEVER miss a real game). I think you're looking too much into it since it's a preseason game. Your questions will be answered on Sept 3rd and especially when the regular season starts.

Fans not showing up for a game is better then selling the tickets to the opposing team's fans. That better not happen again this year. But, if it does then I'll just have to run my mouth and piss them off!!! I love doing it to Philly fans. You can say the dumbest joke in the world and they get so offended by it.

Unfortunately, as I have learned you can blame Daniel Snyder for selling tickets to opposing teams. We sat in a section in the lower level that had three rows added once Snyder became owner. Did the tickets go to people on the waiting list? NOPE, they were given to advertisers who turned around and gave them to clients from the opposing team. It got so bad we requested a seat change to the other end of the stadium. Snyder is the one that is bringing in the opposing fans.

Washington Redskins fans know and understand football. They want good football. Expectations here are very, very high. That's good.
