Post by Jake »

According to ESPN's BottomLine, the Redskins signed offensive lineman Marcus Spriggs.

And Brandon Winey was released. No reports as of yet but he isn't on Redskins.com's roster.

Spriggs Signed; Winey Released

August 16, 2004

The Redskins announced Monday the signing of veteran offensive lineman Marcus Spriggs, a versatile and experienced player that will add depth to the Redskins offensive line. He has NFL experience at both guard and tackle.

Spriggs joined the Redskins for practice on Monday afternoon. To make room for him, the Redskins released second-year offensive lineman Brandon Winey.

Spriggs, 6-3 and 310 pounds, has played seven seasons in the NFL, most recently with Green Bay (2003). He also played with the Miami Dolphins (2001-02) and the Buffalo Bills (1997-2000). He has started 18 games and has appeared in a total of 49 contests during his pro career.

Last season, Spriggs played mostly on special teams for the Packers before a hamstring injury ended his season in late November.

Spriggs had his best season as a pro in 2000 in Buffalo when he started 11 of 16 games, nine at right tackle and two at left tackle. He entered the NFL as a sixth round draft pick (185th overall) by the Bills in the 1997 NFL Draft.

Spriggs was a two-year starter and letter-winner at the University of Houston (1995-96) after a successful career at Hinds Junior College (Miss.). He was first-team All-Southwest Conference choice as a senior at Houston.

Spriggs will wear jersey No. 68.
