HOUSTON -- In what could be the latest catastrophe for the star-crossed Miami Dolphins, wide receiver David Boston suffered what appeared to be a serious knee injury during a Friday afternoon practice with the Houston Texans.
The five-year veteran will undergo an MRI exam of his left knee on Friday night to help determine the severity of the injury. Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt said the injury is to the patella tendon. If the tendon is torn, such injuries are typically season-ending.
HOUSTON (Aug. 6, 2004) -- Miami Dolphins wide receiver David Boston injured his left knee during a joint workout with the Houston Texans.
Boston was running a pass route when his left knee appeared to buckle.
Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt said the initial diagnosis was a strained patellar tendon but more testing would be done.
"We'll evaluate it further and then we'll get the information to everybody," Wannstedt said after the second of two workouts.
The teams are scheduled to practice the morning of Aug. 7 before playing a controlled scrimmage in the afternoon at Reliant Stadium.
The sixth-year pro out of Ohio State played his first four seasons in Arizona and posted back-to-back 1,000-yard years in 2000 and 2001, when he reached his only Pro Bowl after catching 98 passes for 1,598 yards and eight touchdowns.
He signed with the Chargers before the 2003 season.
Texans center Dennis O'Sullivan, signed earlier this week to give Houston some training camp depth, injured his right knee. Coach Dom Capers said it was believed to be a sprain but more testing would be done.
Stick a fork in him folks, he's done for the year.

Boston felt pain before injuring knee By Joe Schad

HOUSTON — In the minutes before David Boston tore the patellar tendon in his left knee, ending his season on a non-contact practice route, Dolphins chief physician George Caldwell examined about 20 players, including the receiver.
"He looked at about 20 guys and David said his knee was sore," Miami General Manager Rick Spielman said Saturday. "But everything was attached, everything was fine. It was just tendinitis. He said, 'David, just go out, would you like to try it?' (Boston) said, 'Yeah, I'd like to go out and try it and see how it feels.' It was just a freak thing."
Boston had complained of soreness in his knee and had visibly limped in two-a-day practices. Coach Dave Wannstedt had praised Boston for showing toughness and said he didn't note anything highly unusual in his appearance.
