New From The Post Injuries Force Arrington, Barrow to Sit Out Practice

The Redskins practiced today without two of their starting linebackers, LaVar Arrington and Mike Barrow, because of injuries. Arrington had his right leg taped up below the knee, the result of getting leg whipped during Thursday's practice, Coach Joe Gibbs said.
Barrow has been having discomfort in his left knee, Gibbs said, something the team has been monitoring closely, and appeared to aggravate the problem today. Barrow was scheduled to have more tests on his knee this afternoon, and his status should be updated after the Redskin practice tonight.
Barrow told reporters to confer with the training staff when asked about why he was unable to participate in drills today. Gibbs did not believe either injury was severe, but losing two key players at the same position would be a serious blow. Washington opens its preseason schedule Monday night against Denver in Canton, Ohio and plays in first home preseason game next Saturday night.
"It's nothing serious," Gibbs said of Arrington. "But he had a little swelling on the lower portion of his leg there. . . . Mike's had a little bit of a problem with his knee. He's got a situation there where we've giving him a little bit of a break, but I think he's okay."
Gibbs is playing things cool - rest nicked players when you need to, don't rist further injury. It is a long camp and with 5 preseason games, a long preseason.
