2005 Football Video Game Offerings

Hey folks, I recently went out and purchased ESPN 2K5. When I was a kid it was Tecmo Super Bowl, up until I got my N64 (believe it or not!) then I got Quarterback Club 1998-1999... I bought the QBC 2000 but it was so bad I had to take it back, haha, and I switched to Madden...

I was pretty happy with it, but with ESPN 2K5 offering their game at 30 dollars less, and college books to pay for I had to take the 19.99 price tag.

Has anyone else tried this game? I feel that the Redskins were very underrated in this game and that we should be ranked higher, but the game looks and sounds great!

I think it's put together better than Madden in the way the moves are so crisp and clean and that the controls are so well laid out. There's also a lot of extra video like fans actually moving in the stands, people tailgating before the game, comeing though the turnstyles and such... It's presented extremely well.

Anyone else play this one, or maybe you'd like to offer your take on Madden 2005?

We sucked in ESPN, but Portis is abeast.

Get Madden next week.

Who sucks in ESPN? We are GREAT in ESPN if you take the time to learn it. I had to unlearn Madden and I gave my all to this game. Though Im still getting my Madden Im not dissapointed in my purchase.

55, get both since ESPN was cheap and compare for yourself, I'll post you some opinions later.

Rent it first, www.blockbuster.com has a deal on renting games.

I dont want to 'un-learn' Madden. I went online and had 32 yards rushing in Madden after palying ESPN.

The graphics are nice but the gameplay to me sucks. I turned the game on the highest setting and I still dominated.

Who is not nice? who about Griffin? He is ranked in the 70s how about our receivers? They are ranked low in comparisom to Madden. They both use similair rating scales tooooo.

I noticed the ratings, they are a bit low. But Im the type of player who will throw the ball and manually catch the ball with my receiver. It takes a lot of those low attributes out of the way because you are in control, not the AI. Thats how you boast your players up. Plus I played the franchise mode and boasted the guys up.

Also I won the superbowl with the Skins on the second highest setting "all-pro". Its all about your style of play, besides I was rushing Portis for 200+ yds a game~! LMAO.

You want do that against me. I control all of my receiver and whether I contol them or the cpu control them, the ratings are still low. They drop just about everything and just about every game board is echoeing the same thing.

I play live humanbeings online and I want my team to have their fair shake. Give them what they deserve.

Don't get all upset at me because you can't play as well as me. Sorry that I actually take the time to learn how to use all the positions on offense and defense. If you choose to let the AI perform the catches for you then thats fine. But I've found that you have a better chance of catching passes if you learn how to do it manually. The same with CB's, I know for certain in 04 that Champ wouldn't make a play because he did it before, so I took control and just swatted it down instead of letting the AI go for a pick and let the WR get a TD.

That 2nd comment is just stupid. Of course its possible, dont you know that players do get better in Madden and ESPN. The AI will only play within the confines of the players attributes. If you use the player ATTRIBS like
"awareness" (which is the most important in Madden) aren't as much of a factor because you are controlling the player.

So what u are saying is once you take control their attributes skyrocket?? I have been palying madden since before your puberty. Gimme abreak.

Whats important is My scheme and zone blitzes will pick you a part. See... I dont really dont care on Defense (accept the line) that the ratings are low because my schemes will put you to sleep.

You can call it stupid but umm.....I am at home and ah...I will nulify anything you just said.

I wasn't refferring to playing online anyway. I was talking about the franchise mode and building your players up. I dont need all of my players to be maxed out at 100% to play good.

If you read my 1st post you'd notice I said that they are a bit low, but that you can overcome that with manually controlling them.

I'll play you tonight if you want, I'll play you in Madden 04 on the PS2. I dont even need to practice since Ive been playing ESPN on the XBOX, I'll still beat you. I can tell you can't play. I get home around 11:15pm. Let me know if you want to play.

My rating isn't accurate, I wouldn't let that give you too much hope if I was you. But if you wish to underestimate me go right ahead. Its obvious that you aren't the player I am. We can just wait till a month after 05 is released and battle it out then. Now or later, pick a date you wish to get embarassed on. :twisted:

Don't want to step in the middle of you two, but I do want to say that I played ESPN2k5 at a friends house this weekend and SMOOT IS A BEAST. He would break off the receiver he was covering to sprint back (at incredible speeds) and make a pick on practically the other side of the field!! If he's anything like that in Madden, then we certainly won't be missing Champ.

I felt that trying to run in ESPN was a bit strange, but I have spent years getting good at perfecting smash-mouth football in Madden. Interesting game overall, though.

For those that have it, does Chris Berman really start to get obnoxious over time?

No!!! I love Chris Berman and the presentation. He was welcomed at halftime and after the game, because of how he calls the plays. Its just like a Sunday night game. EA will have trouble with that aspect of the game. I like ESPN, I dont like ESPN. The reviews for madden R coming.
