First visit to camp!!!!

Post by cwneed »

I'm excited to say I will be attending my first practice on Friday the 7th at 9AM. I have been reading this board beginning last season and have to say that it's part of the reason for my trip (Gibbs, Taylor, Portis may also have a small part). I only have a couple questions.

1. Being that it starts at 9, what time should I get there to ensure we can see the field(s)?

2. I see on the Redskins site that you can take chairs. Is it recommended?

3. Any general tips would be appreciated. IE. good spots, which field will have what on it?

Thanks for all the help.

Today was my second day there (Saturday the first) and the crowd was a good 50% smaller. I got there today at 8:30 and had yards and yards of front-row fence spots available. A Friday shouldn't be that much different. If you're there by 8:40, you're good to go. Make sure you leave yourself PLENTY of travel time, especially if you're coming from Maryland.

Where to stand is a direct result to what your primary objective is. If you're there for autographs, you should probably be left, near where the asphalt path splits the four fields.

If you're there to watch and observe practice (forget being able to see the defensive drills), go further to the right. The offense practices on the field closest to where the fans gather, and a lot of the work is done on the far end of that field.

Hope that helps.

Camp Tips

Get there 1 hour early
Bring a chair
Bring your own water ($3 on site)
Bring a umbrella (for rain and sun)
Meet Boss Hog (whitest guy there with a pony tail can't miss him he may be red by Friday)
Do not I repeat do not take you eyes off Clinton Portis

I hope to be able to make it Friday to camp also. Likewise I too have some questions:

Can you carry a small cooler with you to the fence or must you go back to your car?

Is the parking lot close by (in case of heavy rain)?

Where does Boss Hog hang out?

I will have my son with me and he'll want to get Arrington's autograph. Any suggestions as where to stand to maximize chances? or is that path the best bet?

Rick, yes you can bring a cooler in.

Parking is not that close

Boss is usually at the last set of tents on the right opposite the playing fields.

As for autographs it hit or miss, yesterday evryone run down to the building end of the field, a few of us (BossHog and myself stayed and watch Samuels and Thomas run sprints and do sit ups. When they were done they came right up to us and started talking and signing.

Rick about the rain, the fields are not very close to where you park. Today Jackson and I had a very long walk from the last tent to our car. It was horrible. Of course it was a major downpour. We were completely muddy and soaked by the time we got to our car. But hey that's life!

I was Frank Herzog's camp report on 9 last night.

You weren't one of the fans sliding in mud were you?

The forcast for Friday is afternoon rain - so we might be ok for the morning practice.

Nope not sliding but we sure as heck were running. I was covered in mud only because Jackson decided to dart out in the rain with his football for a little practice of his own. LOL

Opps that was NikiH not Jansenfan. See what happens when he uses my computer! :x

Thanks for the info. I was planning on getting there much earlier than that, probably between 7:45 and 8. I'm glad I asked so I didn't waste my time. I will definately bring a chair and good to know that the parking is far away.

Hopefully I will be able to pick out Boss Hog.

Thanks
