The Unofficial theHogs.net All-Time team: Tight End

Post by Steve Spurrier III »

Thanks again to everyone who voted last time. The team thus far is:

QB: Joe Montana
HB: Barry Sanders
FB: Jim Brown
WR: Jerry Rice
WR: Art Monk

This week we have tight ends. The NFL's 75th Anniversary team:

http://www.nfl.com/history/legends/75th-anniversary

only lists two options: Mike Ditka and Kellen Winslow, so I added a few. Remember, if you want someone else, vote for "other" and specify who. It should be noted Jeremy Shockey is not an acceptable answer.

Thanks for voting!

This poll will end Wednesday.

I voted for Shannon Sharpe, but KW Sr. would also be right up there. You should have included the other category in your previous polls. Add it to all of them from here on out.

I voted for KW, Sr. He changed the way the TE was used.

I voted other and say Jerry Smith is the best. Played in a time when it was harder to get open and held record for td's for TE before Sharpe broke it last year.

Actually, I just turned 29 and never really saw him play. I just know of him from listening to my father and grandfather and reading about him. I did see Clint Didier and I was shocked to see that this guy Jerry Smith made it as the pass-catching tight end over Clint, so I did a little digging. It didn't take me long to see why Clint is on the outside looking in.

He was great, but I could never bring myself to vote for an ex-Cowboy.

Well, someone is referring to Jackie Smith, Hall of Fame tight end for the Cardinals and Cowboys (although he never caught a pass for the Cowboys). 1205 recieving yards in 1965, wow. And that was back in the 14 game seasons:

There should only be Winslow and Newsome on this list and Winslow is the best
