Who is the wimpiest player to ever play in the NFL?
My vote goes to Deion Sanders.

D. Sanders was certainly not "wimpy". I could think of 1,000 other adjectives for the guy, but "wimpy" is not one of them.
I hate to lack originality, but I think I'm with DEHog on this one. Ryan Leaf is a huge wimp.
If I had to offer another one, I'd say "For Who, For What" - Ricky Waters.

I beg to differ JH. Seeing him avoid making one tackle after another always made me wonder why no one ever ran power sweeps at the guy on every play.

JSPB22...your point is noted...I flat out can't stand the guy...but I remember a game where Turk knocked Dieon into next week and he came back in the second half and torched us on a punt return...not the actions of a wimp.

Granted, but when a guy is running with the ball (especially a return man), the whole point is to not get hit. Did you ever see him make a block when another player had the ball? I didn't.

He was not a wimp. This man has much confifence. He was not known as a hitter, but he had enough confidence to wrestle the ball out of opposing players hand.
Arrogant yes, wimpy no.
I think the wimpiest goes to......I dont know, its hard to call a pro a wimp.

Cocky? Yes. Arrogant? Yes, definitely. Avoiding hits and trying to wrestle the ball away are just two indications of his level of pansiness. Quitting rather than face a tough training camp under Marty Schottenheimer is another, but the ultimate had to be the way he looked when he was slapping Albert Connell. He looked like a drag queen slapping a John.

I love the angle of your points.

There are no wimps in the NFL.
In that case Barry Sanders hated being hit and thats how he perfected his style.
This does not make you a wimp, it makes you a skill player.
Deion was not called a wimp when he was picking off every nfl QBs pass.

When you play defense, you are the one supposed to be doing the hitting. Deion does not deserve to be in the HOF! He only played half his position. Yes, he could run fast, but he never supported the run (the other half of the game). I'm sure Dr. Disease will push for Deion to be a first ballot guy while continuing to hate Art Monk, who played the game with real class.

No, I'm quite happy. I'm sorry to disagree, but tackling was Deion's job. The fact that he was the reason the phrase "cover-corner" was coined should be your first clue. Also, if he got in as a punt returner, I probably wouldn't object, but Billy "White Shoes" Johnson was the greatest all time return man. (but we will have to wait for your poll to determine that, won't we?

to say that deion doesn't deserve to be in the HOF is complete nonsense...he's probably the only DB that i would consider a "shutdown corner"...i'll agree that primetime certainly avoided contact at times but there's not a chance in hell that he's the biggest whimp in NFL history. i think a buncha people on this board are biased against deion cuz the lack of success he had in washington and the fact that he was cowboy...but make no mistake, if you made an all-time team he would DEFINITELY be one of your starting cornerbacks.
now, my vote for wimpiest player ever has got to be jeff george...what a serious P he was...dropping back with the look of terror on his face cuz he was looking directly at the D-line and not his receivers. he was the anti-farve.

There have been several greats over the years (Mel Blount, Dick "Night Train" Lane, Mike Haynes) but my all time favorite would have to be Darrell Green. He may be small, but what he lacked in height he made up for in heart.

Darrell Green is my all-time favorite too, but I don't think he is better than Deion.
Around 2000 some of the Pro Football Hall of Fame voters put together an all-time team, and Mel Blount and Deion Sanders were the two cornerbacks.
All I know is, if I'm going into a game against a team that has a Jerry Rice or a Randy Moss, there is no one I would rather have lining up across from him than Deion...

Thanks Joe for getting us back on the thread topic. SSIII, we can agree to disagree about Deions qualifications for the HOF, but that still doesn't preclude the fact that he was a total pansy bitch. Another example: When he went back to receive that punt for us against the 'Pies and the ball bounced off his facemask because he was so scared he was going to get hit, he took his eye off the ball.

We can agree to disagree, but we are also going to have to disagree over whether Deion was a "total pansy bitch". The fact that he shied away from tackling does not make him a bitch. In fact, even though he is much more willing to help against the run, I don't think Champ Bailey does a much better job than Deion ever did. He just kind of dives at the runningbacks legs and hopes that it knocks him over. I also know for a fact Champ let a few footballs bounce off his facemask. Is he a pansy bitch?
I understand why you think Deion is soft: his tackling ability. But this is the same man who not only played both ways for his football team, but played two sports, occasionally in the same week, and if he wanted to, probably could have won a gold medal in the track and field events at the Olympics. He has put together one of the most remarkable sporting careers ever, playing through pain and deliviring winners wherever he goes.
I guess I just can't get over how little you think of him. Was he a tough guy? No, he wasn't. But calling him a total pansy bitch is a bit extreme. Those labels should be reserved for people like, oh I don't know, soccer players:

I'm bored, I'm broke, and I'm back.
