Redskins: '04 Player Profile: Renaldo Wynn

Post by ANT7088 »

Now in his eighth NFL season, Renaldo Wynn understands that his versatility as a defensive end and defensive tackle is a valuable asset to his game. Wynn has played both positions at several points in his career and last year he shifted inside on some pass-rushing downs.

"It's a matter of staying with your fundamentals," Wynn said, discussing the differences of playing both positions. "You have to focus on using your quickness inside so that you can get past big offensive linemen. On the outside, you can use a combination of power and speed."

His selfless attitude and consistent play are the reasons the Redskins wasted no time in signing him as a free agent. Wynn joined the Redskins in 2002 after five seasons in Jacksonville.

Wynn was the Jaguars' first-round pick in the 1997 and earned a spot on the All-Rookie team for his play. His best NFL season was 2001, when he recorded a career-high 75 tackles (40 solo) and five sacks.

Wynn is excited about playing for head coach Joe Gibbs and assistant head coach-defense Gregg Williams. He believes an aggressive style of play fits his skills.

"This defense is aggressive and creates turnovers-and that's how I like to play the game," Wynn said. "It gives you a lot of chances to make plays."

The 6-3, 292-pounder out of Notre Dame has worked hard this offseason to maintain his starting job and prove his willingness to do what the coaches ask of him.

"The philosophy here is, no matter who you are, if you work hard and make plays, you're going to get recognized," he said.

Memorable Game:
In a November 2002 game against the St. Louis Rams at FedExField, Wynn logged two tackles, a key sack of Rams quarterback Kurt Warner and a forced fumble. Wynn was part of a defensive unit that pressured Warner all afternoon and the Redskins held on to win the game 20-17.

From the Files:
During his stint in Jacksonville, Wynn served as a guest movie critic for a local radio station. Last year, he wrote a review of the film Radio for Redskins.com after attending a movie screening to benefit the Washington Redskins Leadership Council. Of the film, Wynn said: "I'm always inspired by true stories because most of them are about what brings out the best in people. So in that regard, Radio was a great movie."

Kurt Warner a forced fumble

You have to get in the game in order to fumble..after Kurt gets slapped around like a ragdoll in New York they'll throw Eli in their and Kurt won't even get back on the field..Unless of course Eli wins the job in preseason
Hail to the Redskins...Hail Victory!!!
