Why do we have so many starting positions? Two quarterbacks? Two kickers?
With a sixteen team league and two starting quarterbacks, that means that every starting quarterback in the league will need to start for someone every week. What happens when there is a bye week?

And why do you say that?
There's 32 teams in the NFL, and each team has a starting QB. There's 16 teams in the league, 2 QB spots. Each team gets 2 starting QBs.
32 teams with 2 starting WRs, that's 64 WRs. 16 teams, 4 WRs, that's 64 WRs.
32 teams with at least one starting RB, not to mention backups and 3rd-down RBs. We're not even counting FBs in this sense. 16 teams, 2 RBs.
32 teams, each with one starting TE and one backup. 16 teams, 2 TE each.
32 teams, one kicker. 16 teams, 2 K each.
32 teams, one defense each. 16 teams, 2 DEF each.
Six bench spots for backups or sleepers.
So what exactly isn't going to work, chief?

You basically put the players you want (regardless of position) in order of how much you want them, with 1 being the most and the last one beind the least. You don't have to rank everyone, obviously, but it's pretty safe to pick as many players for each position you're considering, just due to the fact that there's 16 teams in the league. If all the people on your list are taken at a certain pick, it'll just pick the best player available at the time. Besides, everyone's on free agents after the draft, so you can sign whoever you want. Waivers are only one day, too, so that's not bad if other people waive some of their players to pick up free agents.

What happens when the bye weeks kick in? Since there aren't any leftover quarterbacks, people are only going to be able start one quarterback that is actually scheduled to start. It isn't going to be as much of a problem as I intially thought, because this league is based on total points, as opposed to head to head matchups, but part of the fun of fantasy football is deciding who start and who to bench every week. The way this league is currently set up, there won't be any decision making at all.
You should cut all the starting positions in half.
But this is your league, and it's your decision. Just a suggestion...

tsaler- can you set a definate time for the auto-pick to run AND make it a few weeks from now? You really need to give folks a few days to edit thier pre-draft selections.
I signed up to play but I don't have time right now to edit my draft order.
Plus- We really should be closer to the season to get a better feeling on who's starting etc.
I agree w/ cutting some positions but it is total points AND you can always make free agent moves to try and cover dead spots. Of course - if a roster limit exists then you have to make a decision re: is it worth giving up a player to pick someone up for a weeks points.....

Yes. The auto-draft will be set on Tuesday, July 27, 2004.
In regards to cutting positions, that's what you have six bench spots for. I don't know what to tell you outside of the fact that every person will have a QB with a bye, so there's really nothing unfair about it. Everyone will lose the points eventually, and since it's not head-to-head scoring, it's all okay in the end.

You're right, it's not unfair. But the beauty of fantasy football is having to weigh options. Do I go with Peyton Manning against the Patriots or Marc Bulger against the Chargers? As it stands right now, there won't be any of these decisions.
But I'm done. Sorry...

Very true. Well, I have another league that I'm filling up that's just for friends, colleagues, and folks who I like if you'd be interested in joining that one. It's slightly different, but I still don't know that it'll fit what you're wanting to do. That goes for anybody here as well. Here's the information:

There's only four teams so far, so join quickly. Six spots left ain't much. As you can tell, it's quite a small league tho, which means you can sign a lot of folks from free agents if you decide you like a certain matchup. That's sort of what you're looking for, Steve-o.
