SHTICK: Gearing up for this upcoming season.

In light of the high costs associated with actually going to all the games at FedEx this year, my wife and I have decided to rewarde ME (yes, ME) with a new big screen TV for our 1 yr. anniversary.

(Don't think I'm not doing my part. I'm giving her an upgrade on her engagement ring, see:

I'm sure some of you out there must have made a recent purchase of a 50+" tube or so, and might be able to guide me in the right direction.

Here are my questions, among others (as we continue):

1) (For DC AREA FOLKS) Where's the FIRST place I should go to look for a big screen TV?
2) Plasma? Projection? LCD (price-Yikes!!)? This would be my/our first large investment in a TV, but we don't wanna jump off the deep end (under $2K).
3) Are any big screens incompatible with Video Game Systems?

I'm planning on taking advantage of this weekend's sales and I want to have a good idea of where to go, and which places to avoid. I'm all ears...

plasma, flat screen. not sure you can get that for under $2G, but thats the direction everything is headed in. i have a mitsubishi HD, 46 in widescreen, and i love it(it was $2400). but its huge. it would be so much nicer if i had gotten a 42 or 46 inch flat plasma to go on the wall and not take up so much space, but i would have cost me another $900 to go there. check out gateway and dell, they both have the flat tv's and usually have some sort of rebate you can cash in on. or if thats out of your budget, just check out best buy, they carry mitsubishi and i wouldn't recomend you get anything but mitsubishi if you go with big screens. they are the best. hitachi is good, but they buy all their parts from mitsubishi, and cost about the same. remeber, if you play video games, don't let the screen sit still for too long, as it will cause uneven wearing of the picture tubes. (as long as your not playing on a still screen for over 45 mins - an hour, you should be OK). just be aware that the score, and other images on games don't move or change colors so, thats the main thing to look out for. also, mitsubishi does a little better than most brands with the still images and picture tubes. a lesser brand will probably not handle the video games as well.

Is this only a warning for Plasma Tvs, or big screens in general.

Don't plasma TVs have a shorter life span than a projection TV?

thats for both. still images are BAD. not sure about the life of each. but, if you have the space for a big screen cabinet, just go pick out a mitsubishi that you like. you can't go wrong with it. i just like the plasma, because i have limited space, and a wall mount flat screen would free up a little space for me.
