The Washington Redskins quietly released center Larry Moore on Friday to make room for extra undrafted free agents. The cut wasn't unexpected, because the Redskins' signing of Cory Raymer and re-signing of Lennie Friedman seemed to signal Moore's departure. Also, Moore was in the last year of his contract, and Washington saved $1.3 million against the salary cap by cutting him.
She says in the article that we will save extra money by cutting Trotter june 1, I was under the impression that, in terms of the cap, we were not going to save any money by releasing trotter maybe we were going to take a pretty bad hit. Any info on his dead money if he is released?

We will have to take the remaining signing bonus as dead money over this year and next year (assuming he is cut after 6/1). However, we save extra money which represents his 2004 base, which according the the salary cap table here is $2.7 million.
I am in a state of ecstasy! Never mind that nonsense about euphoria and so on. It is sheer, unadulterated, uncompromising ecstasy!
Here is a list of dead money carried over from last year, that does not include Moore.
DT Dan Wilkinson: $3.94 million
G/T Rod Jones: $166,000
CB Alex Molden: $100,000
TE Zeron Flemister: $233,000
QB Rob Johnson: $125,000
P Bryan Barker: $125,000
DE Bruce Smith: $2.34 million
OLB Jesse Armstead: $417,000
If Bruce Smith has retired, do we still have to carry his $2.34 million as dead money?

haha..thanx skinsfan. I figured it would be a couple days before the story came out. I was just trying to keep everybody up to date of what was going on with the greatset team in all the universe!!
we don't have to pay it, just count it against the cap.
cap hits aren't money to be paid - it is money that has been paid - the signing bonus in most cases - and has been spread over the length of the contract. When the person is cut or traded, the up front money that was spread out over the life of the now void contract gets taken out of the cap at once, or after June 1st, in two chunks.
Which is why we still owe money to Wilkinson and such....

No dead money

Redskins Running Out Of Options On Trotter
The Washington Redskins are running out of options as far as LB Jeremiah Trotter is concerned. Coach Joe Gibbs has no intent on having Trotter on the roster this season and appears to be a June 1st cut. The Seattle Seahawks are the only team to have shown some interest in Trotter but has no plans to trade for him. If the Redskins release Trotter, their will be no 2004 cap hit so this appears to be the most likely scenario.

thats just plain incorrect. if we release trotter after june 1st, the remaining signing bonus on his deal will be split into 2 years..... half this year, and half next. there are no two ways around it, if you pay the bonus, it counts against the cap, whether or not the player remains on the roster. we don't have to count his yearly salary into the cap, but the bonus is there regardless.

Actually, last year was the first year where we didn't pick up the rotten fruit. I was glad to see a littlge aggression from SOS. It's just too bad that he still couldn't coach at this level or could he....
i don't think that was spurrier. i'm not sure if he could tell his from a hole in the ground in this league. i think snyder and cerrato get the props for the jetskins. but i could be wrong.

His fruit (aka his knees) have been rotting for years and we signed him. Fiore was not ready to play last year and may never play again, unfortunately.

I hope this years crop does not spoil for a few years.
