We signed our hard hitting Safety... maybe?

Post by tribeofjudah »

Redskins land hard-hitting S D.J. Swearinger
Redskins signed FS D.J. Swearinger, formerly of the Cardinals.
The post-McCloughan Redskins' signings have underwhelmed to this point, but this is a potentially very good one. Still only 25 years old despite entering his fifth NFL season, Swearinger had a breakout 2016 campaign in Arizona with three interceptions as a 12-game starter, earning positive grades both in pass coverage and run defense from Pro Football Focus. A hard hitter in the back end, Swearinger will be an enforcer next to SS Su'a Cravens.

Great, we're back to having two strong safeties. That's worked out so well in the past.

Sounds like an identity I'm gonna like to see... with DJ and Norman and fill in the blanks... we might be forming our own legion of Boom! I Like That!! Nice breath of fresh air after the Kirk and GM storm

I read that he's more suited to play SS but I could be wrong.

Swearinger will wear #36 after paying Cravens $75,000 for it.

There’s a new safety in Washington. And he really wants to wear No. 36.

How badly does he want to wear it? He is paying safety Su’a Cravens $75,000 for it.

That’s the price D.J. Swearinger has agreed to pay to get the number from Cravens, a rookie in 2016.

Cravens has announced that he’ll wear No. 30. He adopted No. 36 in honor of the late Sean Taylor, who wore No. 36 before changing to No. 21. Cravens wore No. 21 at USC in honor of Taylor; no Washington player has won 21 since Taylor died in 2007 after being shot in his Miami home.

Swearinger also idolizes Taylor; he explained his admiration of Taylor after arriving in Washington. Swearinger explained that he has worn No. 36 his entire life, and that it also has family significance.

It has enough significance to cause Swearinger to peel off a decent piece of his $4 million signing bonus.

Adding Swearinger helps. His natural fit is SS but he did fill in as FS at times.
This will allow our defense more options in coverage. On Normans side he can handle most anything. Breeland would get the help from Swearinger over the top.
