Violence at NFL games (Wash Post story)

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Violence at NFL games (Wash Post story)

A quietly escalating issue for NFL: Fan violence and how to contain it

By Kent Babb and Steven Rich October 28 at 10:33 AM

While the National Football League is more popular than ever, expected this year to set a record by surpassing $13 billion in revenue, it faces potent threats to its dominance over the American sports landscape: declining television ratings, an inconsistent response to incidents of domestic abuse involving players and continuing worries about player safety. But an equally alarming threat is unruly fan behavior in and around NFL stadiums. It has some in the league concerned that it is driving fans to stay away.

“If you are concerned about bringing your family to a game, then that is an issue,” said Amy Trask, a former executive with the Raiders who has served on the NFL’s security committee. “It’s not just an issue for one team, it’s an issue for all 32 teams. The teams know this. The league knows this.”

While business isn't suffering because woman pregnant/non pregant and families aren't attending the games
I feel the NFL is somewhat side stepping the issue of the main cause of NFL fights? Alcohol I realize the NFL
isn't going to tell beer vendors they can't sell their product at games, Just b/c someone abuses it and starts
a fight over something idiotic. But the NFL can crack down on "fans" who want to drive to the games having
already consumed before getting behind the wheel, Or waited till they got to the stadium before chugging
down way to much alcohol

) field sobriety and check points DUI and DWI are one of the main killers in America a drive who knows
better should be arrested if suspected of drinking under or while intoxicated

) Lots and shuttles operate 2 hours prior to kick off - reduces the chance of people hanging out and
getting started to early

) Denied entry into games - security in conjunction with the local and state police should be able
to spot a person overly intoxicated and realize they are a risk if they are denied entry, so turning
them away is an easy solution to detour potential troublemakers away during games
