Redskins @ Falcons

Post by Deadskins »

I'm going to the game, so won't be in on the chat. Anyone else excited to have football back, even if it is just pre-season?

I'm not really sure we can garner much from one preseason game where the starters will play the vast majority of the snaps. Glad to have football back but I think we'll learn more from the final two preseason games, when the reserves are playing for jobs. I'll just enjoy this one because it's football. Washington Redskins football.

Of course! Looking forward to seeing what our second- and third-string guys look like. Really curious to see rookies and second-year players, Scot's people.

? I thought the starters were only going to take a series or two. Usually it's the third game where you see the starters taking most of the snaps.

Notes so far (early in second quarter):

- 1st offense looked OK. They only got one series though. Pretty crisp, no big mistakes. Couple of first downs. Run game looks lacking.
- 1st defense did a nice job. I am really looking forward to seeing these guys play this year. I see a lot of potential on this side of the ball.
- Special teams have been great. Made a FG, booted a kickoff out of the end zone, pinned the Falcons inside the 5 with the first punt, and prevented a return on the second punt.
- I got goosebumps seeing #36, Su'a Cravens, get downfield and making a beautiful open-field tackle on one of the punts.

Also, these Atlanta announcers are idiots. They have misidentified at least 4 Redskins so far and are total homers. I don't mind a little bias (indeed, I expect it), but not to the point of denying reality.

I was hoping to see a lot more potential from Keith Marshall, but he's looked really flat so far. Doesn't seem to have good vision or a feel for when to cut and explode.

Really cool to see that Aldrick Robinson has stayed in the NFL and is making the most of his chances in Atlanta. Good for him.

Su'a Cravens with a spectacular tackle in the backfield! Flipped the running back and drew "ooooohs" from the crowd. He shot through a gap like a missile, showing a great sense of where the ball was and the best way to get to it. This guy is going to be a playmaker.

Defensive playmakers are something we haven't had many of since Sean Taylor. It'd be nice to have one in Cravens.

Kelley appears to read the blocking well as he has a couple of nice runs for 18 and 11 yards and gets in for a touchdown.

First preseason game...on the road.. generally the home teams try a little harder.

Like a few things I've seen from our boys tho.. not much to read into km the starters tho

from all accounts it sounds like we played well ...
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

It wasn't broadcast on regular TV! They had the Ravens game on, I couldn't believe it. I listened and it sounded like Spaight made some good plays and is around the ball. The running game is disappointing. What I heard was a lot of misreads and mental errors on both sides of the ball, I would call that coaching more than lack of talent.
You can fix coaching. I think it was a good game for the Skins, they got humbled and it is proved to them they have a lot more work to do.
